I don't know if you've had the chance to see LOWER DECKS, and if not, I hope you'll see it soon. There is one fragmentary moment in an episode in which ship's gossip is a factor, and of course, I thought of: "The only thing that's faster than warp speed is gossip."

I've definitely seen it, and I like it a lot. :)

The Crisis Point 2 episode of Lower Decks is quite the emotional rollercoaster. It literally had me at hello, with some low-stakes holodeck fun inspired my multiple Star Trek movies. No failing safety protocols, just some friends having fun.

Gosh, I'm so there for it.

But then of course, the plot thickens. Boimler's transporter duplicate is dead?! And Boimler is now desperately seeking for some meaning of life in this holonovel! Tendi is deeply moved by the virtual death of a character designed after Dr T'Ana, and this way finds herself articulating her own ambitions for the very first time?!

This started as some harmless fun with great meta-level allusions to Trek movies, and now I'm amidst a story about the power of storytelling and art!

Plus, I learned that the Wright Brothers had their historic first flight in a town called Kitty Hawk. And guest starring: Sulu! Marvellous episode.

But then,

SECTION FUCKING 31?!?! IN MY LOWER DECKS EPISODE?!

(It's more likely than you think.)

Truly, a rollercoaster of emotions. Perfect score, no notes.

More mildly suggestive Star Trek: Lower Decks fan fiction? How could this be?!

And by mildly suggestive, I do mean mild. This is tame as all heck, but I’m still putting it after the “keep reading” option because it could make someone’s monocle fly off regardless.

Anyway, after the “keep reading” is T’Lyn and her completely out of control thoughts about Mariner.

The Perfect Place for Mariner

T’Lyn laid back on her bed. She was off-center and looking at the open space to her left. She felt the space could be perfectly filled by a Beckett Mariner.

T’Lyn vigorously shook her head. This was nigh-imperceptible, but vigorous by Vulcan standards. She reminded herself that pining for a fellow officer’s perpetual company was illogical. However true it was that she had done a satisfactory job that day, there was no point in imagining Beckett wrapping an arm around her shoulder and letting her know she’d done a satisfactory job. She knew that already. It was fruitless to imagine her praise, her body pressed against hers, her brazenly petting her head, or caressing her cheek, or—

T’Lyn rolled to the center of the bed, face down, arms and legs splayed out. She noted that the position was tactically illogical, but it felt right in the moment. Perhaps that was logic enough. She made a concession to her lungs demanding oxygen by turning her head slightly towards the entrance to her room.

T’Lyn imagined the doors sliding open and Mariner wearing a nightgown on the other side. She would enter the room, door closing behind her as she walked towards the bed. Without saying a word—possibly because T’Lyn often couldn’t imagine what Mariner would say next—fantasy Mariner crawled into the bed and gently repositioned T’Lyn back to one side of it. T’Lyn kept her own movement minimal, instead allowing Mariner to handle her as much as was necessary or desired, the occasional illogical caress not gone unnoticed.

Once T’Lyn was settled, Mariner perfectly filled the space meant for her. After adjusting the covers, she placed a hand on T’Lyn’s cheek as they looked into each other’s eyes.

It was the last thing T’Lyn remembered before drifting off to sleep while still in an awkwardly splayed position. Tendi did her best before their next shift to massage T’Lyn’s neck and limbs back into functionality.

Sharing this take here too. I, Excretus, wej Duj and First First Contact are a really special trio of episodes and almost single handedly carry season 2's placement as the best season of the show for me. But it was basically consistently good after this.
