DIGITAL CALLBOARDS
The CALLBOARD is a central location for all members to receive and retrieve production-related information such as: call times, fittings, calendars, notices, schedules, show, company or union notices, sign-in sheets, cast/creative team lists, resource materials, Comp Tickets, etc.
Physical callboards may not be practical for every rehearsal process or rehearsal room.
Lack of access to rehearsal room. Some may need information right away and may not be able to get to the rehearsal room before their next call to check a physical callboard. With a Digital Callboard all current info is easily accessible and downloadable.
Change in Rehearsal Spaces. There may be no set space for pre-tech rehearsals. One week your at space A, the next at space B. No point in lugging around a physical callboard.
Rented Space. You might be using rented space. You will be restricted to what you can setup for long periods of time.
SMs not available at certain times. SMs may not be able to respond to emails or requests until a certain time. With a Digital Callboard, people are more accountable to get the info they need from the digital callboard.
DIGITAL CALLBOARDS make it very easy to retrieve information without having to dig thru 1000s of Email. One such way is GOOGLE SITES. You can design and custom make one for show and to fit to your show.
SCHEDULE (weekly/daily calls, fittings, photo calls, etc.
CALENDAR (production and tech schedules)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
NOTICES
Welcome Packets
Company Policies
Forms
Links to choreography videos (if permitted)
Resources (PDFs or links)
Comp Ticket Info & Box Office links
and more as needed..
I might continue to email the information initially and use the Digital Callboard as a means of storing the information. Nobody will need to dig thru their email again. If someone asks for something you already sent- direct them to the callboard.
GOOGLE SITES will give your Digital Callboard a long website URL. Setup a hyperlink to the digital callboard in your email to the production members. Make it easy and simple.
Tell them to Bookmark the page in your email.
REMEMBER: Your site may/may not be public to people outside the production depending on what you use to create it. Do NOT post private or confidential information as well as contact information. If you are able to keep the site private and still easily accessible to production members- do so.
Baseball starts tomorrow, and my brain keeps trying to substitute the word “preshow” for “preseason!”
You know how when you cut your hair really short after having it long, you do this little “phantom hair flip” til you get used to it?
Well I discovered that when working in a cordless headset, I have a compulsive phantom headset cable flip.
Still a theatre kid
I’m not the SM for any shows right now. I actually don’t know if I will be again (I have PTSD, scroll on my page for the whole story lol). But I’m still a theatre kid.
I’m a theatre kid when my best friend says something and I finish his sentence with a quote from a musical he doesn’t understand.
I’m a theatre kid when I walk across campus in my all blacks, lightning fast the way I did when I was a runner SM. People step out of my way the way they did then.
I’m a theatre kid when the girl on my floor gets a hickey and I know how to cover it so it wouldn’t even show under the harshest spots.
I’m a theatre kid when I fix my professor’s mic so she can finish the lecture with all 400 of us able to hear the difference between a pi and sigma bond.
I’m a theatre kid when I do not fix the mic of speakers at events even though I want to and I know why it’s popping and I just so happen to have an extra mic wire in my bag.
I’m a theatre kid when I’m walking to the 24 hour library at six AM to finish something and I realize nobody is in earshot, so I can sing out loud instead of just in my head.
I’m a theatre kid every second of every minute of every hour of every day. You can take me out of the theatre, but you can’t take the theatre kid out of me.
Setting foot in your old theater and being like omg is this what it’s like to be on speed because the mems are just too strong
But then remembering that you are, in fact, on speed because it’s just the street name for Adderall and you take that legally every day
-A convo with my non theatre kid best friend-
Him: slow down why tf are you walking so fast
Me: sorry force of habit this is what they call an SM walk
Him: (smirking) I don’t trust theatre kids
Me: (having none of his BS) good you probably shouldn’t we’ll tear you apart
I love the fact that the techie babies at my former theatre department still treat me like their SM. I get a phone call at least like twice a week being like “I’m not gonna have the program in on time” or “costumes is fat shaming people again” and I’m just here like
