Stargazing

The moon had long since risen to its high home in the heavens above, the breeze blew gently, the tall grass bending at its whim. In the distance, the faint yip of a coyote could be heard. Amidst it all sat two boys on a blanket, staring bright-eyed out at the vast sky. This was a regular event, one of familiarity. The stars, as always, captivated them, but the boys weren’t as captivated by them as they were each other.

Gerard had his arm around Steven, it had been since they’d settled down. By now, his hand had slipped under the boy’s sweater, idly tracing shapes against his side, almost mimicking the very constellations they were trying to observe. Steven’s hand, meanwhile, rested on the thigh of the man beside him, his head leaned against his shoulder.

Steven had since adjusted to the sensation of the other’s hands. Of his love. At least, he had thought so. They had come out this way a million times before to stargaze, and they always sat like this, or similarly. Every time, though, Steven’s stomach did flips. Especially when he felt those warm hands on his skin. If he was as confident as he was smart, he would’ve made some sly remark, but he didn’t find the will.

In the same vein, Gerard experienced similar feelings. When they first started dating, he wasn’t exactly sure how to best show his love to the other. The other hadn’t seemed adverse to physical touch, and it took a lot of nerve for Gerard to start handling him like this. Being able to hold the other like this, though, he adored it.

They talked about the stars for some time, as that was what they were there to see, but it wasn’t long before the sappy conversation started – The ‘i love you’s, the challenge about who loved who more, the comparisons to the sky above that they both admired so. Of course, they both knew how silly they sounded, but neither cared. Their laughter filled the night as they teased each other, accompanying the sounds of crickets and the occasional birds.

It didn’t take long at all before Gerard found himself lying on his back, breathless from the laughter. A grin played on his lips as Steven laid down next to him on his back. Steven didn’t stay that way for long, eventually turning onto his side, tossing his arm over the other’s chest. He then folded his arm over it to rest his head on it. He smiled up at his lover, whose hand now rested on his lower back.

“We came out here to stargaze.” Gerard recalled with a teasing tone. Steven hummed, “Which we did.” Gerard scoffed. “For about five minutes.” His hand trailed up and back down his spine before the ginger leaned up to press his lips gently against the other's jaw. Gerard’s face flushed slightly, which he tried to ignore, letting out a small chuckle. “Suppose we ought to head back to Welton?” He asked, to which Steven nodded. “Probably.”

Interesting fact about me: I love seals. I collect stuffed seals, toys and miniatures of them.

my family is kinda poor so when we did go on road trips and such i knew i wasn’t gonna be getting a lot of souvenirs/toys or anything but i started collecting patches (and a few pins but they are usually more expensive) from state parks and national parks and i have over 50 rn and i hope to one day visit all the major national parks also dream job would be working at a national park like acadia in maine or something
