So... I may or may not have given up on Cringetober because i got stuck on a day and it just spiralled out of control.

Although that fucking SUCKS, at least i have been trying to do quick doodles or sketches every day just so i'm atleast drawing something. Its mostly outer wilds at the moment and a good portion of it is StarPals/Startners or TimeBuddies or, in this case, both at the same time.

Mylo's romantic relationship with Chert and their platonic-soulmate relationship with Gabbro mean EVERYTHING to me rn. I write and draw alot of them separately but i don't do alot of them together. I really gotta write something for them together as a group at somepoint...

I could go on for DAYS about their dynamic but my brain is too small rn to ramble for too long so...

Ougghhh im so glad you asked about this one.

This was gonna be a multichapter fic from Gabbro's POV about after the loops and figuring out WHY Mylo being away with Chert makes them feel aweful. One of the chapters (not properly outlined yet) has them crawling into Mylo and Chert's bed after nightmares which is one of my favourite things about their dynamic.

Here's the first like quarter of it cause it makes me feel Emotions <3

Time buddies. Time buddies thoughts.

Specifically Mylo and Gabbro timebuddies. I always talk about like the Chert/Mylo half of Startners but I barely talk about the Mylo&Gabbro half of it.

I love their relationship so fucking muchhhhh. Like not romantic, not completely platonic, but some secret third thing full of intense unknowable emotions and so much love.

Thinking so many things.

Giant's deep cuddles where Mylo just lays on top of Gabbro and lets the extra gravity make them into a weighted blanket. Listening to their flute until what ever is making them anxious goes away.

Mylo bringing over the one bottle of sap wine that tastes good and getting tipsy with Gabbro while they roast mallows and swap stupid stories.

post-loop Gabbro just hijacking Mylo and Chert's bed because they can't sleep (nova nightmares) and Mylo not even asking why, they just let Gabbro snuggle close and holds them like they would on Giant's deep. (i bring this scenario up so often but it's always floating around in my brain...)

There's no such thing as personal space between them, whenever they're together they're touching whether that's holding hands, leaning against each other, hovering over shoulders, etc.

Being in the other's presence just feels right. Like it almost instantly makes bad feelings go away and when they're apart for too long sometimes it feels like something is missing...

20. What is your Hatchling’s favorite planet?

Okay so. Obvious answer is the Interloper because that was literally their obsession since they were a wee hatchling, but TECHNICALLY that's a comet and not a planet so...

If Mylo had to pick a favourite planet it would probably be Giant's deep! It's where Gabbro is and the only planet that is mildly unstressful.

Sure the Ember Twin has Chert on it but it's also where they experienced one of the worst deaths they've been through. Brittle hollow's got the black hole, dark bramble is SCARY, and timber hearth is too bitter sweet.

Giant's deep, while filled with tornadoes, atleast has a hammock they can curl up in and their Time Buddy who always welcomes them with open arms.

28. Is your Hatchling a decent pilot? Were they always that way?

Oh stars no. Even after a solid YEAR or so of looping they still bonk their landing gear on rocks or set their auto pilot too soon leaving Timber Hearth and get slingshotted into the ground by the atmosphere. (Totally not because I, the player who controls them, am terrible at flying lmaoooo)

31. Is your Hatchling flirtatious?

NO LMAO. I feel like they try to be a little bit but they are so silly and dorky that they just can't pull it off. Plus they crumble into dust whenever anyone flirts with them, cannot dish AND cannot take.

32. Is your Hatchling dating anyone? If so, who?

OH BOY. AN EXCUSE TO GO OFF ABOUT STARTNERS??? YIPPEEE!!

You have no idea what you've just unleashed.

Okay, so simple answer is that Mylo is dating Chert and are ???ing Gabbro.

(Gonna put the long version as well as the freebie under the cut cause its getting LONG already)

Chert and Mylo were hatchlinghood friends, often spending hours just studying and reading together in the Observatory library before it got converted into the museum.

Mylo spent ALOT of the loops comforting them until eventually they realised their true feelings for them (Sapwine and Starcharts).

And like, falling in love with someone that would never remember HURTS so they also spent a good chunk of time both in the loops and post loops where they ignored their Star Pal until they get confronted about it and eventually end up spilling the beans (Starfilled Hearts / the retconned slowburn version i'm working on)

Here's where things get COMPLICATED tho. Cause during their time avoiding Chert they spent more and more time with Gabbro until they start to wonder if there's deeper feelings there.

They quickly realise there isn't, but it also doesn't feel the same as their friendship with Hal who was their best friend in the whole world.

Their feelings for Gabbro were way more intense but they they were different from the way they felt about Chert. Mylo can't for the life of them figure out what to call it. (But i can <3 They're Platonic Soulmates. Maybe in a QPR but i haven't done enough research on it to label it that yet)

The line of friendship is so blurry for the Time Buddies already and it only gets blurrier when Gabbro start's coming around Chert and Mylo's place post loops + post Ember Twin because they've been having nightmares and Mylo is the only one who Gets It. And since its late at night, Mylo just lets Gabbro into bed with them for comfort cuddles.

Chert's initially confused by this but eventually comes around to having Gabbro being over so often until it just becomes routine and Chert and Mylo's place becomes Chert, Mylo, and Gabbro's place.

In short, Mylo's weird as hell relationship with Chert and Gabbro can be summed up with two memes:

'Ah yes. Me, my partner, and their 6'2" Time Buddy'

and

2. 'Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.'

(Ace for Ace for Aro ChertMyloGabbro is another big part of their relationship. I will DIE on the aromantic Gabbro / Platonic Soulmate!Time Buddies hill okay?)

Anyways, they make me actually insane. Like my brain is about to explode thinking about them. The time buddies, the star pals, the startners...

4. Who kissed the other first? Tell about their first kiss.

So I actually have a fic about Chert and Mylo's first kiss but I have plans to rewrite it so I'm actually retconning that.

I haven't thought out fully when their new first kiss i so it's 100% subject to change when I get around to writing them but!!!

Their first kiss is definately on the embertwin.

I think after a bad nightmare, Chert finds Mylo outside by the fire and after comforting them, Mylo finally spills the beans about the loops. It's very emotional and after their rambling they accidentally let loose that they're kind of in love with Chert.

Chert is really stunned by the info and Mylo thinks they've fucked everything up but when they go to leave, Chert follows them up into their ship where they grab Mylo's sleeve and ask them to say it again.

Mylo does and that's when Chert pulls Mylo in for a kiss...

INTIMACY

4. Do they cuddle while they sleep?

Oh 100% and usually with Mylo in the middle with a Startner under each arm

Chert wasn't as apt to cuddle at first but now when they get home and their partners are asleep they climb in and move Mylo's arm until they can wiggle under it.

Gabbro was just always a cuddler and they and Mylo cuddled alot during the loops and now they cuddle outside of them!!!

And though it took them a while, when Mylo isn't home, Chert and Gabbro still cuddle. Especially if it's cold.

COMMUNICATION

4. Are their arguments loud or quiet?

I think all three of them are quiet arguers.

No yelling at eachother but definitely quiet seething and leaving to take a break or staying somewhere else for the night to cool off.

I think the loudest argument they've had is when Chert confronted Mylo in the observatory about ignoring them and even then they didn't so much as raise their voice as they let it crack under the hurt they've been holding onto for a solid month.

For realsies tho-

Mylo loves kissing Chert wherever they can (cheeks + temple for suprise work smoochies, lips for when they want something soft, and neck for when they want something spicier)

Chert doesn't often initiate the kisses but when they do it's usually soft and on the lips.

Gabbro does not kiss either of them (I think. Def not Mylo anyway), its just not the vibe for them in this particular relationship dynamic.

FIRSTS

1. How did each of them realize they were in love?

I think Esker always kind of knew? Like it wasn't so much of a surprise realization as it was looking at Hornfels one day and realising the warmth they felt for their friend had turned into something different, something much warmer.

I think Hornfels realised during some call they shared while Esker was on the moon but didn't really know what the feeling was until Esker came home to see Feldspar after their rescue and decided to kiss them to check their hypothesis on what it was.

(not to plug my fics but I have one called Orbiting Around You which is from Esker's perspective and it's about the first kiss where Hornfels basically goes 'yeah okay I was right. I do love you' after)

2. Who fell first, and who fell hardest?

Esker fell first, they've been pining for YEARS without saying anything.

Hornfels fell harder though. When they knew they loved Esker that was it for them. Hehe

Hi. Feeling stupid emotional about Mylo and all the relationships they develop throughout their life…

Hornfels as their parent who they feel safest with growing up, who they seek out after a nightmare instead of going 2 rooms down to seek comfort with Gneiss.

Chert their best friend and now their startner, who they fall for during the loops and who is patient with them when the aftermath of being in the loops take their toll.

Gabbro their platonic soulmate, time buddy and now startner, who they can’t bear to live without, who keeps them from falling apart and who they hold at night when they’re sought out after they have nightmares.

Rosie their lil sib hatched after the loops, who they’re idolized by and who they help coach to be an astronaut just like them.

Their future hatchlings Nova and Ophi who are hatched shortly after Rosie. Nova who is the spitting image of Chert and has the same love of the stars and wants to be an astronaut. Ophi who clings to Mylo and follows them everywhere, who wants to help in the museum.

Mylo has this huge family that just keeps growing the farther down the timeline they get and they mean so much to me.

They’ve been with me through out the majority of my time in the fandom, they’ve led me places, brought me joy, helped me reach people through my work, inspired me in so many ways and??

Honestly I don’t know what this post is supposed to be a bout anymore but just know that even if I don’t post a lot about them they still are rotated in my mind.

One day I want to finish GSU, I want to finish their story and maybe rewrite it to make it better.

Oh Mylo for sure. Mylo loves smothering Chert with as many kisses as they can!!!!

They don't kiss Gabbro but they are still really touchy with them. Always touching when they're together whether that's holding hands, leaning on each other, or snuggling in bed.

6. What is their favourite physical trait of each other's?

Chert for Mylo- Am I allowed to say their lips??? Somehow both soft yet also chapped from constantly worried biting and they love how they feel against their own but also against their cheeks and temple whenever Mylo sneaks up behind them for surprise smoochies.

Chert for Gabbro- Their voice. They're not very chatty with each other but when they are Gabbro's voice is surprisingly soft and soothing.

Mylo for Chert- it's a tie between the crescent scar under their eye and their tummy. Good memories vs comfy cuddling!

Mylo for Gabbro- their arms. Always held them secure during the loops when they needed to be grounded.

Gabbro for Mylo- Their laugh. Love hearing it ring out after every joke they tell!!

Gabbro for Chert- How short they are. They love teasing them about it and leaning their arm on their head but they also love how easy it is to just wrap around them fully when they cuddle.

7. What is their favourite personality trait of each other's?

Chert for Mylo- They like how brave they are and how much they've withstood over the years. Obviously they think that they should have never had to go through any of it but they're glad Mylo was able to make it through...

Chert for Gabbro- They love when Gabbro surprises them, whether that's by saying something really smart that they didn't know Gabbro knew or with other affections and small gestures like offering to hug them when Mylo's away.

Mylo for Chert- Mylo loves their shared passion for the stars. They love getting to sit under them and work on charts and just chatter about their fav constellations.

Mylo for Gabbro- They love their no questions needed attitude. The fact that they could just show up on giants deep during the loops and just crawl into the hammock for hugs after a bad loop without being asked why meant so much to them.

Gabbro for Mylo- How yappy they are. Love just chilling with them and listening to whatever they've got going on

Gabbro for Chert- on the other side of the coin, they like how quiet Chert is most of the time. They like just sitting near them while they both work on their own separate things. It's very soothing. (Though they do think it's a little cute /plat that Chert mutters to themself while they work hehe)

8. Are they each other's "type"?

Honestly I don't think any of them have a type really. Like all three of them never really had crushes outside of eachother (and Gabbro never had crushes period) but I guess out of all of them Chert is the one with the type and that's very tall nerds lmao.
