The Legends Classic: Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade, inspired by the characters from Star Wars’ Expanded Universe and especially “Heir to the Empire”. I figured it was time we bring in a little old school because I love Legends (have we ever talked about my “Darth Maul: Lockdown” obsession?) and I think we’ve got room for both canon and EU on the shelf. And also, Mara Jade’s bright red hair is just so vibrant. 🥰 I wasn’t intending for A Valentine’s Day couple, but these two are def contenders. I came across an amazing artist at @fanexpodallas a few months ago and fell in love with his Star Wars pieces. I bought an ANH Luke, Ahsoka, and Cara Dune from him. When he opened up commissions recently I jumped on it because I knew I’d love whatever he came up with for a Mara and Luke piece. Preliminary Character Sketches by Mike Vilardi. 1992.

Artist Mike Vilardi was kind enough to share his preliminary character sketches of Mara Jade, Talon Karrde, and the Noghri, in preparation for his Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook illustrations for West End Games.

“I did some sketches to help me develop Mara’s look, which I felt should reflect her strength while still allowing for vulnerability and a touch of weariness/inner conflict. It was an honor to have a hand in the development of her look, adding to her personality and "fleshing-her-out," so to speak. It’s truly awesome to be an adult and be able to play in a universe that held me spellbound as a kid.”
