If you could befriend any historical figure, who would you choose? I just finished reading The Editor, by Steven Rowley today and I absolutely loved it. The protagonist works with the one and only Jackie Kennedy as the editor of his novel, and the two form a strong bond while working through his deeply personal writing. (Fun fact, Jackie Kennedy really did work in publishing later in her life as an editor. I had no idea until this book came out. 🤷‍♀️)

The Guncle by Steven Rowley was the first book I read by him. I absolutely loved it. I laughed and I cried. There was a level of authenticity to this story that really let's you feel what the author's putting out there. I have read Lily and the Octopus as well. Rowley has most certainly faced grief and must have figured out how to laugh through the tears. Some of my favorite quotes:

"There are two tragedies in life: one is not getting what you want, the other is getting it."

"People who love each other fight. The opposite of love isn’t anger. It’s indifference. When people stop fighting, that’s when you should be worried."

"Trying to say how much your mom loved you is like trying to describe the size of the universe. It can’t be quantified. Can’t be done. I’ll bet she finds a million ways to say hello. Your eyes just have to be open to seeing them."

"Grief orbits the heart. Some days the circle is greater. Those are the good days. You have room to move and dance and breathe. Some days the circle is tighter. Those are the hard ones."
