So...instead of writing, what am I doing? Looking at pictures of baby animals. Why when I have loud muses am I looking at baby animals? Well, you see some of those loud ass muses have decided they either want pets, or they want to give others pets. These pets were NOT part of the plan. And yes, one of them wants a freeking MEERKAT! I tell you, I cannot control these lunatics I'm stuck with in my head. But here we are...me looking at baby animals with some muses trying to keep secrets from other muses. SMDH.

Writing tips for stubborn characters who never do what you want:

If you find that your characters aren’t doing exactly what you want, there are two things you can do:

Go with it and see what happens—you may be surprised and like the outcome

Change their environment and/or circumstances

I almost picture this like a maze. If your characters are heading towards a dead end, block it before they get there—drop a wall that forces them to change direction, and keep doing that until they get to the right destination.

In summary: if you can’t change the characters, try changing the situation or scenario until you get your characters to do what you want!

fellow writers! a question for you!

when you’re writing do you ever find certain characters easier to write for? like easier to get into their headspace? 

because out of the BoB men, there are some that I could wrap myself up in and write for years. I know them, words pour from their head to mine without effort. I could write what they’re thinking, feeling, wanting, until my fingers fall off. 

and then there are others that no matter what I do, they won’t cooperate. I have all the information. I know their stories, their lives, what they’re feeling and yet.... when I climb into their head it’s just. silent. the words won’t come, at least not with meaning or feeling. 

it’s like my brain has compiled two lists. a list of characters I get, and a list of characters I don't, and proceeded to collect names for both, seemingly at random. 

am I the only one that struggles with this? or are y’all out there dealing with stubborn characters too?
