Sugar, come back!
Today is the last day of September and that means it's the last day of the sugar free challenge. Am I glad it's over? Was it hard? How it went and will I ever eat sugar again?
Let's start from the beginning. I was sugar addict, I knew it but I wasn't doing anything about it. Then I learned more about sugar and it's impact on our body and environment. After reading a lot I decided to quit sugar for one month, get rid of addiction and learn how to refuse it. At first, it was really difficult. For a week I had headaches and I couldn't think clear. After first week it got easier, I had more energy, no trouble with focus, positive approach to life and less sweet cravings. With time, I've learned how to find options without sugar, how to use fruits for my sweet tooth, how to refuse sugar while being in large groups of people without feeling left out and how to go for a cake and coffee without the cake part. I also experienced three sugar less travels and one wedding. I had one failure, but it was at the end of September so it was really easy to came back on track.
You will ask what now, am I going back to sugar or do I cut it out of my life forever? I'll say neither. I want to reduce my sugar intake but for sure there will be the times when I will treat myself. I accomplished what I wanted, I don't need sugar to be happy and now I can refuse what everyone else's is eating, but that doesn't mean that my addiction can't come back. For this reason I'm not taking the risk of going back to my old eating habits.
This experience was very eyeopening and if you have problem with sugar like I had I really recommend you try. On my Instagram account I posted some tips as well as some motivation and my thoughts throughout this journey if you're more interested in the topic of sugar I also wrote a blog post on this.
