Summer Smith Headcanons
based on an ask from my original blog
Summer might be Jessica’s half sister. Beth isn’t sure and never bothers to find out. Prom week was wild, dude, and Jerry happened to be the one who stayed.
Summer is the kind of understated smart that you often find in gifted girls. As a toddler, Summer is precocious and observant and fearless, and she learns very quickly that little girls with these traits are scorned, or even vilified.
Summer’s entire childhood is spent dumbing herself down in desperate pursuit of “average.” The problem is, Summer has a hard time defining average. She fits in at school well enough, manages a boyfriend and a social life, and it damn near kills her.
Summer is allergic to local anesthetics. The Smiths find this out the hard way when she is seven years old and at the dentist for her first filling. She goes into cardiac arrest and Beth has to perform chest compressions on her own daughter while the panicking dentist calls for an ambulance.
Summer notices everything. That’s why she buries herself in her phone - it’s a distraction from all the bullshit that she can’t ever quite tune out.
Summer gets fed up with law school and takes off in her Glazorpazorp spaceship one rainy March evening. She changes her name to Summer Sanchez, doesn’t bother to tell anybody where she’s going, and never comes back.
Summer fucking thrives in space. Most species are unfamiliar with humans, and for the first time, Summer is free to be Summer. She starts a successful design company, gets hooked on Space Meth, marries a vaguely vulpine alien with three eyes and a fluffy tail that she met in rehab, becomes an assassin, gets dumped, writes a best-selling novel about her experiences, and embarks on a very successful modeling career, all before she’s 35.
Summer cannot carry a tune, not even a little bit.
By the time Summer is 50, getting married and divorced and remarried is just another hobby. She considers it a form of cultural immersion. And honeymoons are universally awesome.
Summer is in her late sixties when she’s hired for a hit on an unknown target. She doesn’t realize that the target is Rick until she’s staring down his bald spot through the scope of her gun. Rick looks exactly the same. She rolls her eyes and buys him a drink. Rick doesn’t recognize her at all. Summer has the time of her life, fucks her ancient grandpa just for kicks, then goes home and assassinates her handler.
