I know everyone is super anxious about the last two episodes but I wanted to ask you, do you think it really matter what happens? Regardless of if Mindy ends up with Jody or Danny, we will not be seeing Danny's presence. If in the finale she ends up with Jody, we are likely to see new love interest in s5. If she ends with Danny, it would not last due to Chris Messina's involvement in s5. Ultimately, there is no happy way for s4 to end ever since the Messina news came out.

You make good points. It’s all up in the air. Anything could happen. Will the show go where I don’t want to go. Dramatic/negative , or sweet and happy.
I don’t know how s5 will go. I don’t know how much Messina will be in it. S5 will have 16 episodes. Maybe he will be in it for 12 episodes or 4 (eek). Or, maybe he’s just “special guest star” because of business stuff. I don’t know. And, Garrett/Jody is a special guest star too and he was focused a lot in s4b and he will be in s5 too. hmmm I also don’t know if Messina will be absent in 4 episodes in a row or it’s like every 5 episodes, he’s absent for 1 episode.
I have some positive speculations on what s5 could be for Danny and Mindy while Danny/CM be absent on some episodes. Danny and Mindy get together in s4 finale or s5 first episodes....
-Danny becomes a stay-at-home dad. TMP is mostly a office show, so there’s ways to not have Danny show up.
-Or, they’re together, and the story goes as usual but some episodes, Danny isn’t in it. Kind of like the road trip plot but a better and simple whatever reason. Like he’s sick or he have to travel for work or something. (It would be cool if absent-Danny episodes they mention Danny a lot. Like s4 Mindy and Peter-episode, Under the Texan Sun.)
-Or, an episode like Under the Texan Sun. Where it’s a really good ep in my opinion and it’s focused on Mindy. Maybe like in s5, an episode that it’s Mindy-driven or Mindy with friends episode. An episode that doesn’t really need Danny to be there.
-(or s5 is them rebuilding their relationship again. Like, maybe they date. Maybe Leo is part of something and they meet up weekly. Or, do couple therapy.)
*I don’t know how Jody thing will work. Maybe he becomes a background minor character like Collette, Jeremy, Beverly, Tamra. ???
So, yeah there are some ways TMP could do with Danny and Mindy as a couple in s5 or later on. Based on spoilers, it seems the writers are saying it’s Danny and Mindy-positive. It’s also Danny-heavy in the last two episodes which I think it means the writers will show Danny’s POV and stuff..and I hope that means they still care of Danny. I hope the writers showed that he changed to be a better man and still fight for Mindy’s love.
I know it’s tough right now. We just gotta wait and see. :x
so some people are kinda worried about danny because it’s The MINDY Project show. But ...think of I Love Lucy. Lucy is the leading star of the show, but we know she’s always with Ricky.
ok a lot of people had said Danny became worse or that the writers made him look bad in order to make Mindy look good and so we can root for Mindy on her journey of, yeah, she can be a working mom and follow her dreams. She can have it all. Some said it’s bad/lazy writing on making Danny more horrible and some think it’s to change the show to single working mom show, and Danny leaving the show.
What if the writers took one step further on the character of Danny. What if they make Danny worse because he’s freaking out on being a new dad. Maybe the the writers are waiting to write this plot to deal on his fears in s4B? It’s kind of cool to see the worst of Danny to the best of Danny and it sounds like an awesome Danny character-development arc. (If s4B is his redemption arc.)
Someone mentioned this on twitter and omg sads. In s3 finale, Best Man, here’s why Danny doesn’t want to get married.
Danny: When I got married to Christina, I thought she was the greatest person in the world. And now what? We hate them both, Ma. We hate them. I don't want to end up looking at Mindy that way, okay? I don't want to split up from her, and not live with my son, and have him feel like I felt. Alone. I don't want that. Okay? That's what marriage is, Ma. I'm sorry, but that's what marriage is.
Mindy and Danny are not even married yet and this is already happening. His fears are holding him back. The writers knew. A foreshadowing..a seed planted. Idk how to explain it...it’s a warp Christina-Daddy issues fear that is holding him back since Pilot ep. So, I think and I hope s4B, is all about Danny overcoming this.
oh gosh, i would love it if you were right that the 2nd half of the season is danny's journey to mirror mindy's in the first half. i do think the show is always mostly going to be about her and her journey, as it should be, but i totally agree that that would be an awesome bookend for the season for danny to start to grow, and I REALLY hope you are right!

Hi! Great question. I think I disagree with your premise. We have six series regulars. One, the lead, is me, an Indian woman. Another is an African American woman. That's a third of our cast - although of course I hate to think of us in those terms. Utkarsh and Randall Park both recur on our show. I do think it's important though, we can always do better. I always think it's funny that I'm the only asked about this when sitcoms I love with female leads rarely date men of color. I guess white women are expected to date white men. I'm expected to "stick to my own".
2) I think you're talking about Tamra. I'm sad you reduce her to a "sassy black woman". Xosha is hilarious and gorgeous and nails lines like "A cranberry turtleneck is what you give your aunt graduating from court reporter school." Is it because Tamra wants to be famous and loves to perform at work and puts a value on superficial things? I loved playing that as Kelly on the Office, and I love that Tamra is young, loves celebrity, and is confident and into herself. I hate that it's reduced to someone else's version of a racial stereotype.

I think it's something both Mindy and Danny would enjoy a lot and I'd write fanfiction about them seeing the play if I could... ok, not the point, sorry) and there's a verse about legacy, so I was wondering about this and I would like to ask what would you like The Mindy Project's legacy to be?
[–]ImMindyKaling[S] I am so excited about Hamilton. Tommy Kail, who directed it, is an old friend of mine from New York who is insanely talented and great. It's such a phenomenon that we were going to do a story about it on the show. Basically Morgan finds a Hamilton playbill in the trash and someone sees him holding it and suddenly he becomes very high status. So this Hamilton playbill becomes his most prized possession because everyone thinks he's this classy, tuned-in, rich art-loving guy. Then he loses it and he goes back to his regular life. Flowers For Algernon but with a Hamilton playbill basically. ..........(I’m not sure is this a spoiler or not.)
What has been the hardest scene to get through without breaking on this season of The Mindy Project?
[–]ImMindyKaling[S] We did a scene recently where Danny and Mindy invite everyone to their engagement party (ep 11?), and Chris and I could NOT stop laughing at Collette (Fortune Feimster). We were trying to delicately remind people it was a classy party and that people were expected to dress well, a little pointedly at her. And Collette was just not understanding it. Fortune's amazingly funny.
Hi! Will Cristina be mentioned at all this season or is that something that you've thought about?
[–]ImMindyKaling[S] We have some great ideas for bringing back Christina. In the second half of the season we're hoping to get Chloe Sevigny back to hear some of her perspective on Danny-Christina's break-up. Chloe is one of my favorite actors.
Danny: "Do you plan on having children?" I'm gonna check "no."
Mindy: Wait, why would you check "no"? I do want to have kids, four of 'em.

I just like that in the beginning of the s1, Mindy's all about finding true love (and being married and having kids) and Danny's all about getting over with his divorce with Christina. Danny and Mindy were not friends at first. One of the things that get them to fight is when Danny tells her something like she wouldn't have this romantic idea of having everything she wants (family, married, true love) or when Mindy mentions his divorce.
Ok now that in s3x15, they're together and having a baby. I really hope they get married soon or something that we know they stayed (married) together for long time.
Because, so far, I think that’s what TMP endgame goals are of the show. Mindy finds her true love and stays married to a guy who believes in love and to be loved again.
