my best friend thinks weight/body fat can contribute to getting type 2 diabetes. i told him it doesn't, that there's just a positive correlation between higher weight and type 2 because they can both be caused by excess sugar intake, and he got upset and angry with me for trying to school HIM about diabetes when it's more in his family than mine and basically said i just believed whatever i saw on tumblr. do u hav any info with sources on the issue?
Check my “t2diabetes” tag and also tell your friend to shut up.
Keep on going 💕
Going hypo in the shower is one of the most inconvenient parts of living, and the heat just makes it happen more often. It's a cruel world.
everytime i see a video that gives false information about type one diabetes my immune system kills another beta cell
American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure: a series of fundraising cycling events held nationwide. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with r
Hi everyone! I recently signed up to take part in the Tour de Cure, a bicycling event meant to raise money for the American Diabetes Association and spread awareness about diabetes. In order to race, I need to raise a minimum of $200, though I have set my goal high at $1,000 because it would be amazing to be able to help give back so much to an organization that has helped me so much on my journey as a diabetic.
Here's a little info about why this is important to me: I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in October of 2014. I was absolutely devastated when I got the news, as I was only 22 at the time and had seen firsthand what untreated diabetes does to a person when my dad (also a type 2 diabetic) stopped properly taking care of himself and started going blind and dealing with the pains of diabetic neuropathy.
The American Diabetes Association's huge assortment of resources available for free on their website really helped me calm down, realize that it wasn't an immediate death sentence, and start to adjust to life as a diabetic.
Please consider donating to my fundraising campaign, or at least reblog this post to help spread the word!
I have a coworker with T2D and the other day I said “I’m super tired, I bet my blood sugar is high” to which she replied “yeah, mine has been high for the past few days so I’ve just stopped checking it”
