It happened to me…
I was actually told i had a bad flu the day before i was diagnosed. I find it funny bc my regular dr at the time had type 1 diabetes but she was out that day and her partner diagnosed me.
I went undiagnosed for three years. I could have skipped the trip to the ER had my doctor been in the office that day.

@thomastheorem - Those keep coming up on Reddit (which actually has a really helpful T1D community!), and a lot of people have been getting them. I might find the idea more tempting myself, if it weren't for the fact that first responders apparently aren't usually trained to look for medical tattoos right away? Unlike with jewelry.
Tattooing does seem like a pretty good idea for permanent conditions like diabetes, though. It's not like you're going to lose a tattoo, at least without some kind of horrible accident. 😵
I guess some diabetics might have trouble healing tattoos on their arms/torso, especially if their blood sugar has been out of control for a while. I didn't want to risk getting any new ink when mine wasn't being treated properly. And I'm still hesitant about the lower legs anymore, with some circulation problems as a lasting complication. ☹
But yeah, if the person's levels are in decent control and their circulation is okay wherever they're wanting the tattoo? Healing probably shouldn't be a huge issue for most people, thankfully.
OK, this is a really good answer, to such a tiresome question. Diabetics are the best at tattoos. We (literally) live for needles. I do not have any (yet), but I think it would be dope.

I just think this is lovely (look at that line work and lettering 🤤) but it wouldn't work well as a medical alert. This one is nice for that:
I think the negative space, font, and placement would really make it visible to most any medical professional (who are increasingly aware of medical tattoos).
Im type one and i have a tattoo going down my thigh!
It actually didnt hurt at all until the next day, which felt like i just excersized too much and strained a muscle, so it was more of a sore feeling rather than a sharp pain.
I have another autoimmune disorder that slows down my healing process, so it took mine about three months to heal completely (this is actually super normal even for able bodied people because the dermis (skin) under the first few layers is also inked and will take up to six or seven months to heal completely)
It was 98% healed after three weeks for me (with proper after care folks!) And i had a bit of raised skin on one of the dots for a while which concerned me bc keloids but it went down after about a month.
As long as youre safe, do your research to find a good, reputable artist and take your tattoo aftercare seriously, i dont see a reason why diabetic people cant have tattoos (also, i am planning on getting a diabetes tattoo, but also i plan to continue wearing my medical alert bracelet as well)

Youve never known spite if you havent watched an angry thirteen year old diabetic shove an entire piece of pizza in their mouth while holding direct eye contact for far longer than was necessary or comfortable. (What do you mean im talking about myself no im not shut up)
This is probably the least of our problems when it comes to diabetes orgs and medical/pharmaceutical companies, but it drives me crazy that none of the photos in any of their materials include scarring from finger pricks/injections/pump sites. There’s not a single diabetic in the world that doesn’t have little dots all over their fingers/sites and the photos should include that!!
But... For marketing companies to do that....theyd have to hire /actual/ diabetic people?? And ruin their aesthetic of The Perfect Diabetic?? That doesnt make sense???

Ok, how does a diabetic cope with Halloween? It was my favorite holiday, and I take my siblings trick or treating (good exercise lol). I was diagnosed right before Halloween last year (the 20th). Any tips you can give me?
I apologize but I am not going to be all that much help here i’m afraid.
Which is not to say I don’t enjoy Halloween,
I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!
But living in the English countryside I have always celebrated the spookiest of seasons more through movie marathons than Trick or Treating.
I suppose my advice would be to carry on as normal: dress up, go out, have a great time, get candy. but then perhaps give that candy to your sibling? (double the haul for them, and it’ll score you some seriously good brother/sister points).
I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful, but hey! I have followers who can pick up the slack for me! How do all you diabeauts out there in the world cope with the greatest of Holidays?
i just take extra insulin and set a big portion of my haul away to refill my hypo kit
A fine and surprisingly tactical solution: what else y’all got?
Keep everything the same, eat the candy as you go low! Then get more candy.
Try to take insulin for everything but I plan ahead so the next day will be ok if I have to stay home and die a little from the night before candy gorge
I’m not sure if I’d encourage that last one but keep them coming people!
I usually up my basal for a night of candy grazing and keep the rest for hypos in the future :)
Do as you would normally for a snack. Instead of grazing as you go, finish up trick or treating and then set aside anything you want and can (realistically) eat. Then take insulin and dig in! Keep the rest for snacking later on (i dont use candy for treating lows, but if you do its great for that as well!)
Diabetes shouldnt stop you from having a fun night and celebrating the spooky season just like your friends and family 🎃💀🎃
