The Shang-Chi sequel that I know Disney will never make.

Ta Lo, as an isolated nation that's ethnically Chinese but basically independent from China, has the potential to be a metaphor for Taiwan or Hong Kong.

Just as Wakanda and Talocan are used to comment on Western imperialism, Ta Lo could be used to comment on Chinese imperialism and ethnonationalism. I doubt the Chinese government would be happy about learning that there's an isolated, independent nation with a portal within their borders that controls a powerful resource.

Of course, I doubt Disney would ever allow something like that. They'll never show Ta Lo citizens being herded into labor camps to make dragon scale weapons for the PRC. They'll never show the Great Protector in chains, being painfully harvested for excessive scales so some Party official can make a quota. They'll never show Shang-Chi and Xialing teaming up to protect their mother's people from genocide.

But hey, this Hong Kong-American can dream, right?
