Yoga in the afternoon, in the sun ☀️, "Tabletop," "Crab," and "Half Reverse Plank." Reverse Table is a variation of Upward Plank Pose (Purvottanasana) that is more suitable for beginners and for those with less core strength and flexibility. In Sanskrit, this pose is called "Ardha Purvottanasana" (ARD-uh PUR-voh-tun-AHS-uh-nuh), which means "Half Intense East Stretch." This comes from five words: "Ardha" — meaning "half" “Purva” — meaning “east" “Ut” — meaning “intense” “Tan” — meaning “to stretch” “Asana” — meaning “pose” The ancient yogis considered the front side of the body the "east" side because they would practice yoga while facing the sun as it rose in from the east. So here's a little video of an @fyp.official sequence starting in #staffpose, moving through #tabletoppose and ending with the #LLift or #Lsit. Start seated in Staff pose, long straight legs, long straight back. As you inhale, bend the knees and swing the pelvis up to Tabletop pose. Exhale back to staff. Repeat 3 times. Next cycle, when you come back down towards staff pose, don't let your bottom come to the ground: you're supporting your torso with your arms, but your heels remain on the floor. Inhale up to table top. Repeat 3 times. Next cycle, once you have come back down towards staff pose with your bottom off the floor, try and lift the heels off the floor too. you're adding the weight of your legs into the mix now. Try one at a time. Repeat three times. As you come down for the last time, try and hold the legs off the floor for a couple of breaths, then exhale the bottom and the heels to the floor at the same time. I'm doing the pointed toes version here as this is for @kwanho_shm as part of a bigger project. Day 2 #yogachallenge #forthesakeofyogajanuary and we're going #slowanddeep this month. This week will consist of six poses each of which you stay active in for five minutes, set by a timer, so by the end of the week you have a half hour #restorativeyoga sequence. Start with a five minute #restpose then add in each day's pose. Today's #asana is #childpose, and you may need a rolled up towel or two. Come from #supportedfishpose, to seated, hugging your knees into your chest. Make your way er onto all fours, #catpose or #tabletoppose. Extend your toes behind you so your toenails are flat to the floor. If this is difficult for you, place the rolled up towel under your ankles for support. Keeping your hands where they are, slowly lower your bottom towards your heels. If you can't get your bottom all the way down place another rolled up towel between the ankles and your bottom. Keep your arms off the floor and come up onto teepee fingertips. Start the timer! Push the floor away gently with your fingers, let the shoulders roll down the sides and keep the neck long. Again work on long, slow and deep, breathing, into the chest rather than the belly.
