Even though Jet, exes with Sonic, didn't want him to become a super hero vigilante, it was ironically team Babylon that helped inspire him to fight against Eggman. When they were younger, they used to do petty crime like destruction of property and tagging, so Sonic already had some familiarity with running from the law with his friends supporting him. They inevitably drifted apart though when Sonic started devoting a lot of time to fighting Eggman, and it put a strain on Jet who didn't feel like doing heroics and wasn't seeing Sonic as often or doing fun illegal things. Team Babylon went in the opposite direction than Sonic with escalating to major thefts.
