And from someone else (I didn't crop it and cannot vouch for its veracity)
an underrated aspect of undertale and deltarune is the way it targets peoples fear of technology failing
now im no psychologist and i havent found any studies on this phenomenon so dont take this as gospel, but i think humans have a natural fear of glitches and failures in technology, even if we expect them. thats why tv jackings and bluescreens and lost media are so scary. and utdr really uses that to its advantage
the deltarune.com/december link is the first thing i think of. ive seen that page a million times and yet seeing it still makes my heart race and a lump in my throat. theres nothing scary happening but it still activates a fear response
that moment in undertale before the photoshop flowey fight where the game crashes and shows the corrupted intro cutscene and corrupted save file made me throw up from fear when i was a little kid. i had nightmares, not from flowey himself, but from the corruption, even though i knew about it beforehand
theres everything about genocide Chara and soulless pacifist. deltarunes sword route and the way it glitches just like an old game would. that one scene in the weird route when Susie asks whats wrong and the screen freezes with the empty text box. fuck, the goners and fun value events as a whole
ive seen some people say utdr would be a great horror game, but if you ask me theyre already horror games, its just more of a side element and not the main focus
I haven't looked yet, but I'm waiting for all the Eddie technophobia fics after the latest epsiode. 🤣
Today's KAITO module of the day is:
Mirroring by technophobia!
i have selective technophobia often triggered by watching creepy eas or error screen videos or even just holding my ipad after remembering its battery can just decide to explode
saw a great post about issues with how modern fandoms look at... being fandoms, and I would have reblogged it had it not been for lumping AI art/writing in with *checks notes* harassment over ships or dark topics. I'd rather have people post properly tagged AI fanworks and still have fun being a fan than people assuming because they use AI they aren't as much of a fan when fandoms nowdays have people who fandom hop to just complain about works not meeting their expectations and try to police fanworks before moving on to the next thing that caught their eye. And then I checked twitter and saw someone calling out a fanfic and going line by line trying to prove it's AI when it could have easily been written by a third hand fan since some of the evidence they claimed wasn't even true. Like. if people don't feel safe to tag AI-gen fanworks but will get harassed either way on mere suspicion? That's incentivized not tagging things properly and people being dicks for no reason.
yeah, it seems to be a frustratingly common position. policing use of AI in fanworks is no different than policing the content, but lots of people just jump to the opposite and cause all the same problems
