"That's the last time that bloody landlord gives any lip to a wizard," said Albert with smug satisfaction. "It seems I turn my back for a few hundred years and suddenly people in this town are encouraged to think they can talk back to wizards, eh?"
One of the senior wizards mumbled something.
"What was that? Speak up, man!"
"As the bursar of this university I must say that we've always encouraged a good neighbor policy with respect to the community," mumbled the wizard, trying to avoid Albert's gimlet stare. [...]
Albert let his mouth drop open. "Why?" he said.
"Well, er, a sense of civic duty, we feel it's vitally important that we show an examp--arrgh!"
Terry Pratchett, Mort
The Bursar shrugged. 'This pot,' he said, peering closely, 'is actually quite an old Ming vase.' He waited expectantly.
'Why's it called Ming?' said the Archchancellor, on cue. The Bursar tapped the pot. It went ming.
Terry Pratchett / Moving Pictures
I’ve been reading the discworld books very out of order and have just finished Moving Pictures. Ridcully has arrived. The Bursar is still sane. I have a question:
Does Ridcully break the bursar??

Reblog this to give the Bursar three dried frog pills
Listening to the audiobook of The Truth and the Bursar made reference to the Duke of Sto Helit as one of William's potential newsletter clients, and I was immediately like "wait - he means Mort! Timeline shenanigans? Does The Truth take place *before* Soul Music when Mort the Duke of Sto Helit dies? Is it an oversight by Pratchett?" The Bursar then ruined my theory by talking about entering "the century of the fruitbat", to which William says something to the effect of "the century of the fruitbat is ending actually," so no. The Bursar not knowing Mort died is proof of nothing but him being out of touch and we already knew that.
