Thoughts, feelings, and opinions on lanterns??
I’m trying so hard to actually go into the show and appreciate it a little bit but sometimes you genuinely can tell the writers do not care about these characters a whole lot.
The show first of all just LOOKS like some Tom King bullshit and you can tell he had some genuine part on this show which is disgusting in my opinion.
It’s all desaturated with browns and greys. Genuinely where are my bright colours for the character whose powers are literally making things out of colourful light??? Gunns whole DCU has been incredibly vibrant so far but we lose that with them? Characters who arguably are some of the most vibrant characters to look at? The show being dark would be cool if they seemed to genuinely want to utilise their powers in any seemingly good way to consistently contrast this dark show because “in blackest night” and all that jazz but it genuinely seems to not be doing that and not want to be doing that.
The Lanterns show seems to be afraid of even being a superhero show which sucks so much because everything else in this DCU has felt properly corny and like a good showcase of comic book stuff to really feel like it’s superheroes. These guys don’t feel like superheroes they feel like two guys who happen to have powers who go around being cops. Not that the green lanterns aren’t cop like but they don’t feel like cops in the way green lanterns are, they just feel like genuine cops. Why is Hal slamming a man against a wall?? It unfortunately feels very Tom King-y again. Copaganda ahh show
Hal’s suit is fucking disgusting. There should not be any fucking brown on it. Since when has Hal’s suit been brown??? This DCU so far has been staying true to goofy comic book fashion with superman getting a suit that has goofy trunks but Hal has to lock in and not look like a superhero??? Cool. Thanks. Glad to see you hate us.
And lastly, Hal being weirdly racist towards aliens makes genuinely NO FUCKING SENSE? The alien lanterns take up a very big part of his relationships. Some of them are his best friends or former mentors. The “one of thems a fucking squirrel” bit was funny, felt kinda in character I’ll give you that. Him acting like knowing or talking to the other lanterns was weird though. “Are you kidding, I’m the only human? They’re aliens.” So…? Why should you care?? Why is that feel really racist? That makes genuinely no sense whatsoever given Hal’s history with the lanterns and the fact that he is CONSTANTLY IN SPACE. How can Hal be the best green lantern if he doesn’t fucking leave earth?? Also I feel like we blatantly forgot Guy even though he’s been confirmed to be in this show i believe? Because he says he’s the only human lantern but Guy should still classify under that. Even if you wanna argue that Vuldarian stuff I feel like he still spends enough time on earth and identifying as human that he should count. Also why would Guy realistically know about that stuff yet?
Does this feel like a rant? 100% I wrote this at 6:30 am in the bathroom. I’m not proud but I had some thoughts to express and share and maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m missing something it I want to know how other people think.
