BOOK REVIEW: The Ask and the Answer by @patricknessbooks Did I mention that the first book had a cliffhanger that had me in a grip! I loved this one the most out of the series. This was a dual POV and I loved reading and seeing Todd from Violas perspective. The character building is beautiful because you’re invested and totally care what happens to them. Also I don’t think I mentioned how well done the villain is in this series. Mayor Prentiss is a force, a leader with a loyal following. He’s logical, calculated, and smart and you can’t fault him. He gave Hitler vibes (in terms of loyalty) and I HATED HIM!! He was a master mind at manipulations and just very well written! 🤯 This whole series explores power and control very well. I loved the contrast of two teams of war (men against women) – I liked the psychological angle to it. In this book, Viola and Todd are separated and both made questionable decisions that drove me up the wall. (I don’t ship them, they just gave off BFF vibes and were a force together). 💖 Todd was such raw emotion in this one. He was such a soft little #hufflepuff but the decisions he made in this book made me want to sit him down and council him! Also his relationship with his horse. Im just a teary mess when it comes to pets in books cause just IT BROKE ME!!! Viola on the other hand was beautiful. Her character arc was 100, she was a no nonsense, get shit done and just all over brilliant!! 👏🏼👏🏼 Also we’re introduced to the native species of the planet- the spackle and how we the humans are cleansing them out to colonize on their planet (area). My heart ached for the spackle and just reminded me how we continue with such practices here – yes I’m talking about Palestine! To sum up, the second book was dark, thrilling and it broke my heart!
