Hey, saw your comments on that musical post and I was wondering where Little Shop of Horrors and Next to Normal fell in regards to your desire for "edge" and/or wanted to recommend them if you haven't seen/heard them.
(Edge is in quotes because Hadestown and Sweeny feel very different in tone to me so not 100% sure were "edge" lands for you.)
I meant "edge" more like... most musicals I've encountered are so... saccharine? Or, and I don't really like this word, twee? Hadestown and Sweeny are both, like. Idk. I don't know how to describe it. They treat you like an adult? Who can think?
LSoH is fun though I'm only familiar with the Rick Morranis/Steve Martin version. Never heard of Next to Normal, sounds very serious but I think I appreciate that about it. Saw that Wicked is getting a movie soon ig and I'm interested in that too, never saw it live.
Personally what I really want is an honest to goodness metal musical. Not rock opera, but a proper musical with crunchy guitars and blazing drums in addition to the musical theatre aspects, I'm just a whore for metal. Like let Nightwish score a Phantom show
