i am reading your blog because i'm comfortably atheist but really miss a lot of aspects of unified worship and it makes me happy to see someone experiencing them :) (and admittedly makes me want to start looking into religions again)

me too friend! I mean, more technically I've vaguely agnostic but mostly atheist but I'm super keen on al the Judaism that is not believing in a personal God, which is a lot of Judaism, lbr.

oh oh i haven't gotten there yet on this playthrough - is that when you realize dr kenson is indoctrinated and get locked in that room with the reaper artifact until you get either overwhelmed or the artifact knocks you out with ~*~space magics~*~?? i think i've made it through all the waves on hardcore but that took ages, shit i am not looking forward to it on insanityyyyy

Hi :) I was actually just wondering... did you take the GEMSAT? What was it like? My family really wants me to do it and I kind of want to try, just to see if I can.

(I hope you don’t mind that this is a public reply; I am yet to conquer some bizarre bug that ruins the text box function of my askbox-replies and makes it impossible for me to answer privately if I am writing more than three lines. TUMBLR!!!)

I did! I am not sure how to describe it, really, and I’m not sure my input will be enormously useful because I am lucky enough to be really good at standardised testing, in a way that I know many people aren’t. My GAMSAT score was 86 (when a score of 65-70 will get you into most medical programs). I didn’t do any prep courses and I did minimal study.

I also sat it seven years ago, so aspects of the format might have changed in the interim. Bearing that in mind:

The science section relies heavily on basic biology and organic chemistry (and a bit of physics) knowledge, and I think if you’re serious about it and you’re unsure if your science knowledge is adequate then the prep courses or study materials available might be helpful. Science is weighted twice as heavily as the other sections, and it’s twice as long. You have to be able to whip through this section without pausing too many times to dredge up facts. There will be more chemistry than you expect.

The humanities section & the essay are less easy to prepare for, and really you just have to be able to work FAST and power through them without second-guessing yourself, because there’s no time for that. Writing one or two practice essays while adhering strictly to the time limit will show you just how little time you have to come up with a concept, structure it, and write it. In ~my day~ it was two essays in one hour, one argumentative and one contemplative, and if it’s the same now…yeah. It’s hard. Lots of fluent bullshitting will be your friend.

Also, bring snacks. Lots of snacks. It’s an exhausting process.
