I made this using the ears and color suggestions from the Failynn Fox Cowl, and the hoodie pattern from the Bladyn Bear Sweater. Both designed by Heidi May of Velvet Acorn.
It came out GREAT, and was super easy to follow. I love her patterns. If you look at her store, you can see her adorable little girl grow up as she models new patterns. I think that’s just so sweet.
I made this size a bit big for my daughter, so she’ll have to wait until next Christmas to wear it. I also used Woolike to crochet a border around the button holes to make them stand out more.
The Wool Ease Thick & Quick is great for working fast, but I needed to make sure the 1 1/2 inch buttons were going in the right places. I did a tricky maneuver since I only had one skein of the black. The hood is picked up from the sweater shoulders, including the front pieces after you’ve picked up stitches for the front border. Sooooooo, i was using both ends of the black skein as I knit back and forth for the hood. It got a bit tangled-crazy, but it was worth not having to estimate and cut the remaining black.
I used about 3 skeins of Spice, 1 full skein of Black, and just a bit of 1 skein of White. Bonus, I have enough spice to make a ear flap hat AND put some super cute ears on it. I really LOVE this pattern.
