the thing about spock and bones is that fundamentally they are the exact same kind of person and that's both why they mesh so well and why they absolutely cannot stand each other. one looks at the other and sees themselves and their flaws and wishes they couldn’t. you should be better than I am but you aren't. forces them to see themselves laid bare. which is also part of why mccoy carrying spock's katra goes so crazy to me because few if any people in mccoy's life even noticed there was something wrong until they really started trying to get to genesis. truly where does bones end and spock begin? can you draw a neat line like that? when fundamentally they are the exact same type of person? burying their true cores down so deeply only the other could actually see it. they mesh so well together. they can't stand each other. the only other person in their life who could pull back that facade
