goodnight, thjazi fang.
do you think there was ever talk in Dol Makjar about how those Fang boys married up? like, they didn't come from any sort of significant or reputable background and the first Fang boy shacks it up with one of the heirs of the Lloy family, makers of the god-slaying Pariah Blades. and then the younger one goes and gets hitched to the Lady of a Sundered House??? like come on
I’m kinda surprised none party members realized the reason Bolaire had that “outburst” was because he just learned Thjazi planned to use him in the ritual to connect with the halfing afterlife, something which would most definitely kill him.
Like the man who treated him with complete disdain, blackmailed into doing his smuggling, and referred to him as “it” fully intended make him nothing more than spell component.
And then Mara said, after learning he’s one of the missing Panto masks, one of the “ploughshares” who struck down the Trickster Shaper, she’d die before letting him go in the box. And this is not reassuring at all because she’s basically saying, I’ll do anything to keep you intact BECAUSE you will eventually be used in a ritual, regardless of what you want.
He’s PISSED because everyone is acting in awe of the theater, calling it beautiful, and no one is acknowledging it is beyond miraculous it worked out and actually succeeded. The Cloak’s plan was purely experimental and the chances of it failing spectacularly were extremely high. As Bolaire points out, they were using god-killing and antique artifacts pretty haphazardly without fully thinking through the consequences; like such as releasing a sentient god-killing weapon in a massive city or attempting to bridge into a missing afterlife at a theater filled with thousands of people.
Bolaire was trying to tell them why this is extremely dangerous when the talk is that they should try this again with the halfling afterlife and everyone keeps dismissing him. He’s also saying the life he has built is over, his sister is freely running around wearing a powerful sorcerer of a Sundered House (challenge-level of a dragon mind you), and tired to outright kill him, and all of their responses to this is “Yes, and?”
Explains they shouldn’t just trust Thjazi blindly; Hal says he needs to just needs to let go of his brother.
Family is trying to murder him; Occtius just acts exasperated by.
His sister needs to be stopped and Bolaire needs to find the rest of his family, Kattigan asks “You say you lost everything when you still have family?”
He is all but begging Thimble to at least acknowledge that Thjazi treated him terrible and regarded him as just another tool to be used; Thimble just says she’s always trusted Thjazi.
So what can he do? Well, fall back on to old programming, the only thing he was created to do.
I belong to you. I am your weapon. What would you have me do?
so it really does look like Julien's shadow curse is ghost!Thjazi just hangin' out in there... So, given that Thjazi clearly understands what's going on around them - he's reading papers several feet from Julien - why has Thjazi twice tried to kill Julien, when Julien is currently helping further Thjazi's goals?
Thjazi genuinely wants Julien dead whether or not Julien is helping, and tries to do it when sufficiently empowered by ambient necrotic energy.
Thjazi does NOT want Julien dead, but does kinda want to fuck with him and/or strangle him a little (fair), and so does so whenever he's sufficiently empowered by ambient necrotic energy. In neither circumstance would Thjazi actually would have gone through with killing him.
Thjazi does NOT want Julien dead, but as a shadow-ghost must make Wisdom saves against sufficiently strong ambient malicious necrotic energy that drives him to kill, and has twice failed.
Thjazi meeting Occtis: Poor kid. Thjazi a second later: Here's how I can use this child.
“we can do that?” the fairy asks, hope and wonder and mischief in her eyes
“we can do anything” the thief answers, genuine, reassuring, with such determination the fairy can’t help but believe him
I’m loving the importance of memory and remembering in this campaign.
Azune sees it as his duty. Something he must shoulder so not one fallen comrade is forgotten.
Vaelus cherishes it like it’s the only thing keeping her going.
Thimble loves her memories of Thjazi, but she still gave one up because revenge means more right now.
Julien regrets the memory his father had of him, and the fact he can now never prove him wrong.
And SO MANY MORE!
Memories, both good and bad, are integral to both a person and the story as a whole. The gods were killed, but their memory lingers. Thjazi is dead but he’s the driving force of almost all the characters.
We ARE our memories, and the only choice we do have, is to choose how we carry them.
OH MY GOD THIMBLE IS THE TINKERBELLE TO THJAZI’S PETER PAN….
