Had a dream the other night about these three characters. Edwin and Anthony are fraternal twins who are in a band together; ‘thony is the lead singer and gets all the girls, while Eddie plays guitar and gets one girl. Which is Jessy, a quiet book nerd who likes to hang out in the background.
Until Jessy’s birthday, when she finds out that she was cursed as a child to become the puppet of a magical being on this exact day. Jessy disappears, Eddie goes after her, ‘thony goes after Eddie, and a very devoted fan club goes after ‘thony. Adventures ensue.
Drew them in my usual style and then in my Bob’s Burgers style because I’m so much more used to drawing that way now lol
Nadia made quite a few claims last episode about Arman’s motives and character. She scorns him for his desires to go legit, claiming he could never give up the money and the power. She says he’s acting the way he is because he enjoys Thony looking at him like he’s a hero. In my opinion Nadia is more wrong than right.
It's not just the feelings he has for Thony, it's how Arman feels about himself when he is with her. He happier because he’s being reminded of his core identity. His entrance into the criminal world was out of a desire to protect family and to repay a debt. His ambition was always secondary to his drive to be a caretaker. All this time he’s never stopped caretaking, he’s just transferred his focus from his birth family to Hayak. The problem with that shift and why he finds it unfulfilling is that in caretaking for Hayak, he’s had to become the abuser of others. He’s also not getting his emotional needs met by Hayak, who he finally has realized sees him as nothing more than an employee.
He is also not getting what he needs from his wife. Nadia keeps it “fun and sexy”, as the orgy suggests, but its not very romantic. There also doesn’t seem to be much mutual comforting with this pair. Business partners yes, but not people who accept each other wholly as they are. Nadia laughs at the idea he could be a good man, when that is as much part of Arman as the man who enjoys the power and respect of his job.
Nadia can blame Thony if she wants, but the truth is this was always coming.
When I first saw that Fox had a new show coming on, called The Cleaning Lady, I thought the Lady would be the the killer, cleaning up problems, not literal! I‘ve been pleasantly surprised. I can’t wait for Monday, around, 9:20 or so, so I can fast-forward through commercials and such. I’m upset that this is a mid-season and that it hasn’t been renewed, yet. Fox is notorious for getting us open, and cancelling without notice or worse, mess with the writing and/or characters.
Now, on to the show specifics. Thony De la Rosa is fighting for her son with everything she has, yet she does draw lines. She’s mainly in Mommy-mode with everyone- Luca, of course, Fi, Chris, and Jaz, and even Arman. She knew she needed to protect herself, her family, and Arman, from Garrett’s crookedness. I wish she’d go back through her memory and log every interaction. There’s no way he should still be an agent, after sleeping with an informant, which, I’m convinced he’s hoping to work up to with Thony, still, ambushing Thony in the ladies’ room, stalking her, threatening her son, telling her his personal business, encouraging her to use ”feminine wiles” to do his dirty work, if caught, trying to encourage her to spend time with him, after completing his dirty work, and using intimidation and an ICE raid to induce fear and to force cooperation. There is a special place in hell for him; damn right he’s the snake. And so jealous of Arman! I loooove it! How the hell is he even still alive after that stunt at the farm?!? All that muscle/security, him rolling up; they would’ve followed his ass, called Carlos and/or Arman and strategized. That was a bit unrealistic. And sorry Garrett, you never had a snowball’s chance in hell with Thony. Try your former partner/boss; you may just have a chance. And there’s more than an S-Visa that he can assist with and he should’ve retrieved Gabby. I’m not a fan of Garrett Miller; why is he so hard for Arman?
I think since her father was killed before she was born, Thony never had a man she could depend on, until Arman. He doesn’t expect anything from her, well beyond what she’s hired to do. Every other man wants this and that, let’s say the cost is too high, in Marco’s, Garrett’s, and even Hayak’s cases. And in Arman’s case, he offers what she wants/needs most, care for Luca. And even when it was obvious that he is very attracted to her and could have made shit real uncomfortable, beyond the occasional barking and constant eye-fucks and encroachment of her personal space, he keeps it cool. Hayak wants loyalty and all that comes with it, Garrett wants to control her and for her to do his damn job, and Marco wants to drain her dry and come back for more. He’s barely concerned about their son and his needs. He’s concerned about Marco and Marco’s wants and needs. He encourages Luca to not only disobey his Mommy, he kept Luca out when Thony, a doctor, said he needed to go to his room. It’s like he’s not taking Luca’s conditions seriously. Thank God Arman loves Luca and Thony, or Marco would be a memory. What was his thought process rolling up on Thony’s boss and trying to push past her; Tarik got g-checked for the can, and now, that shit will likely get you killed! Arman ain’t worried about her husband or her FBI agent lol Besides, Arman has assisted Thony numerous times, in some capacity, with Luca’s care/treatment:
1. Got a referral through Dr. Saroyan for the trial
2. Carried and drove Luca and Thony to Dr. Saroyan’s Clinic
3. “Brought” Joe to Vegas, who eventually provide bone marrow
4. Took Thony to the Coyote, who took her to the Broker, where she initially brokered a deal for a liver
5. Apparently, worked with Thony to find a another way, which were flyers, which produced a donor
6. Offered to pay for the transplant surgery
7. Reiterated his offer to pay for the surgery to Thony and the offer was inferred/implied during his exchange with Marco
8. Informed Nadia that he offered to pay for the surgery
9. When he had to cancel the deal and knew he could no longer pay for the surgery, he asked when the surgery was needed, trying to see if he had time to make/collect the extra money he needed, I think.
He really does care for Luca (and Thony).
I wonder if Nadia’s jealous because Thony rebuffed her advances. Maybe just envious. I doubt if Arman is supposed to catch feelings but then Thony isn’t one of the women Hayak “gave” him. Their meeting was fate or destiny. Arman looked so hurt when Thony told him her husband was here. Maybe Arman thinks that Thony has a working marriage. And I thought Nadia left for good. Seems like he called her after the bomb Thony dropped and to close the deal or just to close the deal. He look like he forced himself to kiss her. And then pimping her out, his actual wife; where they do that at?!? I seriously doubt Arman would even let Thony sing up in the club like he imagined; she can sing in the office, at home, or when they’re alone. I don’t think he wants anyone to see or look at Thony in anything but casual clothes or a uniform. I initially thought Nadia was going to tell Hayak about the guns and deal but it could just be about taking Thony and company to México. He really does love the way she looks at him when he does those things for her. What did Hayak say, “You have a soft spot for this woman. I’ll take care of it.” Arman had to turn his back because he thought his girl was going to be killed.
Thony keeps the guys just close enough to get what’s needed for Luca. That’s the only benefit she’s concerned about. But she can‘t count on Garrett, without impossible strings, she really can’t count on Marco, but Arman, he’s gonna do all he can and some things that seemed unlikely to get her what she needs for Luca. For Thony, right now, what she needs, is what’s needed for Luca. Since he was born he’s been her world, the consummate mama. She’s a great sister, auntie, and friend, but those roles pale in comparison to her responsibilities and actions as a mother and you’d think other parents would get that. I think she felt guilty, not for kissing a married man while she’s married, I think she felt guilty because she felt selfish; thinking about her emotional needs in that moment. And if Arman wasn’t tearing at her clothes they may still be making out! Poor Marco, she was kissing him like I used to kiss my damn late Daddy; well I only kissed Daddy once and my love showed. Thony was not in the mood, at all. But that was apparently going on long before she left the Philippines; separate beds, what? I hope she doesn’t stay married for Luca’s sake; she deserves to be with someone she loves, is in love with, and that is in love with her and loves her unconditionally.
Carlos is one of my favorite characters, very few words but the gestures and expressions crack me up 🤣 He has to make it to Season 2.
