you whisper-yelled, resting your hand over your chest as you saw your boyfriend’s face outside your window.

“open this!” he mouthed, gesturing you to open your window. “hurry up!”

all sorts of alarms rang in your head, wondering why the fuck your boyfriend was not at your front door like a normal person but at your window — that too, at two in the morning.

“hey, what’s wrong?” you asked as you pushed open the frame, brows etched with worry. “is everything–”

before you could continue, jason smashed his lips against yours, taking you by surprise. he took full control of the kiss, blissfully sighing as he felt you kiss him back.

it hadn’t even been that long since he saw you, but oh, how he missed the taste of your lips.

"jay," you mumbled between the kisses, still confused. "what's going–"

you paused as you felt his hands on your waist, pulling you closer as you gave into the kiss completely.

jason merely smiled against your lips, the simple sensation of your lips against his sending him into overdrive. he turned his head, deepening the kiss as his hands moved to hold your hips tightly.

you simply complied, the intensity and passion behind his kisses making your stomach flip a thousand somersaults.

jason pulled away, a dazed smile on his face as he looked at you. "hey," he muttered, his raspy voice making your chest hurt with how good he looked.

"hey? it's two in the morning, love." you chuckled, shaking your head. "what's the occasion to be greeted like this?"

jason only smiled in response, his sparkly brown eyes filled with adoration, depriving you of every breath you tried to take.

he tried to reply to you. he really did.

but one look at the confused pout on your face, and he was leaning back in, pressing his lips against yours.

one time. two times. five times. ten times.

you couldn’t help but giggle at his antics, forcefully pulling yourself away from your boyfriend as you looked at him.

“jason todd,” you sternly said. “as much as i love your kisses, what’s going on?” you asked, brows furrowed in confusion.

with one last kiss on your lips, jason pulled away, a love-struck look on his face as he smiled at you, his eyes conveying more than he could ever say.

“it’s nothing, honestly. i just missed you and your pretty lips.”

jason todd uttered the words under his breath like a mantra, sitting on his bed as he dialed your number.

but alas, you didn’t answer.

one call turned into two. two turned into five. and five turned into twenty. but you never answered — not even one.

suddenly, the nightmare seemed so much more real. the colors, the sounds, the pain — everything replayed vividly in his head, forcing him to relive the nightmare he just woke up from.

jason sat tied to a chair as the joker stood over your bruised body, holding a bloodied crowbar in his hands.

he was helpless as he watched the man who once killed him do the same things to you, not a sound leaving his lips no matter how much he screamed.

tears rolled down his face as jason realized he couldn’t do anything but watch the psychotic villain repeatedly whack the love of his life to death. 

despite having a big build, the raven-haired male remained restrained to the chair as you reached out a bloody hand towards him, your busted lips parting ever-so-slowly in an attempt to say something.

with a final stab, the joker towered over you, laughing manically as your body went limp, the quietest of gasps leaving your lips as the crowbar sank into your chest.

without another word, he rushed to find you, knowing there was no way he’d be able to go back to sleep without checking if you were okay.

please prove me wrong, y/n. please be okay.

you stood in your kitchen, sleepily rubbing your eyes as you opened a bottle of water to drink from.

after a long night of work, you came home exhausted, not even bothering to have dinner as you took a shower and went straight to bed.

it was past two in the morning when you finally woke up, oblivious to your phone (which was on silent mode) that had been ringing nonstop for the past half hour.

the pin-drop silence in your apartment came to an end as you heard someone banging against your door, making you freeze in your spot.

“y/n! please tell me you are here!”

the familiar voice snapped you out of your frozen state, and your feet quickly rushed to open the door.

jason todd, your boyfriend, stood in front of your door, panting as if he had just run to your house.

which, considering the situation, he definitely had — no doubt.

you watched as a look of relief graced his face, not wasting any time wrapping his arms around you.

you remained confused as you fell into his muscled embrace, returning his touch as you processed what was happening.

jason felt his knees give away, absolutely relieved to know you were unharmed as he held you in his arms.

you gently guided him to the floor, surprised to see your ever-so-stoic boyfriend look like he was on the verge of a breakdown.

“jay,” you gently spoke, rubbing his back. “i'm here, my love. i'm right here.”

you had absolutely no idea why your boyfriend almost broke down your door just to hold you in the middle of the night, but you knew there was a reasonable explanation behind his actions.

“i'm here, and i'm not going anywhere.”

the two of you remained on the floor, just wrapped in each other's embrace, until jason finally spoke up.

you listened as he quietly confessed about the nightmare he had, your hands intertwined with his as you two sat on the floor.

“i'm sorry. it was stupid and i should've just let it be and—”

“it's not.” you shook your head, smiling gently at the raven-haired male. “i'm really sorry for making you worried.”

“don't be sorry. i barged in—”

you shrugged. “you almost broke my door off its hinges and calmly walked inside. i wouldn’t call that barging in,” you joked, bringing a smile to your boyfriend’s face.

“that i did, yes.” jason nodded. “i’m really sorry about that.”

you leant forward, capturing your boyfriend's lips in a chaste kiss. the raven-haired male smiled against your lips, sighing in contentment.

“you don’t have to apologize for caring about me, jaybird.” you pressed another kiss on his lips, smiling. “i love you.”

jason felt at ease as he looked at you. “i’m glad you are here. alive and unharmed,” he mumbled, shaking his head at the thought of the nightmare.

you pulled yourself into his arms, getting comfortable in his hold as you gently cupped your boyfriend’s face in your hands.

“it was just a nightmare, my love. i’m right here in front of you, and i’m not going anywhere.”

your brows furrowed as soon as you heard the familiar voice, feeling your heart beating in your throat.

it was almost like clockwork at this point; jason getting hurt because of his recklessness when he’s fighting crime and returning to the tower so he can get his wounds treated by you.

after all, your healing powers came in handy, especially at times like this.

you took a deep breath, walking towards your door. just like you had expected, jason todd leant against the doorframe, forcing a smile upon seeing you.

your eyes scanned his appearance, gritting your teeth as you saw the various wounds scattered all over his body.

his outfit was in tatters and soaked in his own blood, showing exactly how much he had gone through during the fight.

yet he stood before you, a smile on his face, because he knew you’d heal him back to health — just like the other hundred times you’ve done so

“gosh, sweetheart!" jason exclaimed, smirking. “at least invite me inside before checking me out.”

you turned on your heel, walking to your bed and sitting on the edge, waiting for the brunet to take his seat in front of you.

the lack of speech from your end didn’t spark any attention from jason, who was kind of used to you being quieter than quiet on some days.

without another word, you gently lifted his arm, using your free hand to channel your energy onto his wounds, slowly working on healing him.

“i’m honestly glad you are here, just willing to help me,” he confessed. “like my very own personal nurse, in a sense,” he joked, chuckling lightly.

you nodded in a daze. “yeah,” you muttered quietly, your hands shaking as you tried to heal his wounds.

why does it always have to be like this? why does he depend on me so much?

you couldn’t help but let the thoughts wander through your mind, your breaths getting uneven as you struggled to focus on your healing energy due to your emotions going haywire.

“… so yeah, that’s pretty much what—" jason paused, realizing you weren’t paying attention to his words. “princess? you alright?”

“mhm.” you nodded, raising your hand to work on the wounds on his face. “i’m fine.”

but no matter how many times you repeated that phrase to yourself, upon seeing how scuffed jason’s face was, you struggled to hold back the tears that pooled in your eyes.

why would you do this to yourself? why would you let this happen?

the brunet noticed your glossy eyes, unable to get a word out before you burst into tears, burying your face in your hands as you sobbed.

“y/n? what happened?” he asked, gently pulling your hands away from your face. “sweetheart, talk to me.”

you stifled your cries as jason held your face. “i don’t like doing this. i don’t like seeing you get hurt so badly.” he softly wiped away your tears with his thumb.

“oh?” his voice was quiet, barely audible. “i can always ask dick or gar for help. i didn’t think i’d be troubling you.”

you shook your head. “it’s nothing like that, jason,” you denied, letting him know he misunderstood you.

“then why are you crying?”

“because i care about you!”

the brunet winced, surprised, as you raised your voice. he opened his mouth softly, unsure of the words he wanted to say. “but why?” he asked, his voice just above a whisper.

“because i like you, birdbrain,” you confessed, sniffling. “i like you so much that i hate seeing you hurt.”

jason only smiled to himself, warmly pulling you into his embrace. “i like you too,” he added. “i like you so much that i run back to you every time i get hurt just so i can see your face,” he admitted.

the only reason jason todd always had the energy to make it back to the tower, no matter how badly hurt he was, was because he knew you’d be there, waiting for him.

“you don’t have to get hurt to see my face, you know?” you frowned. “please, try not to get hurt, okay? promise me, yeah?”

jason todd smiled as he nodded, pulling you into his embrace once again before placing a chaste kiss on your forehead.

“i promise, sweetheart. i promise to take better care of myself, so you won’t have to see me hurt like that ever again.”

just as you kept mumbling sweet nothings to who you think is the love of your life, the real love of your life made his way towards you, having spotted you on the train just as he got on after his work.

“you are bringing him home?! babe, our apartment doesn’t allow pets!”

the brunet turned at the cheerful voice, brows furrowed amusingly as he saw you in front of him, enthusiastic as ever.

“yep.” he curtly nodded, scooting to the side to make space on your lab table. “you are y/n, i’m assuming?”

“the one and only!”

“good to know.”

as an overenthusiastic hufflepuff, you were always told to take it down a notch as your attitude could be overbearing to people — especially slytherins. 

and seeing jason’s slight smile and brief replies, you figured you were going a little overboard with your energy.

“uh, if you ever feel like i’m too much, please don’t hesitate to tell me,” you quietly stated, a small smile on your face. “i’m trying to work on it.”

jason todd didn’t know why, but hearing you say that made him frown, realizing you must’ve been told on multiple occasions to calm down. 

on any other day, the brunet would’ve made some sort of snarky remark, but seeing the way you nervously smiled at him, all he could do was shrug off your comment.

“i’m not much and you are too much; i think we balance out each other well.”

as the days passed by, you and jason only got closer — or at least, that’s what you thought. you were constantly rambling, and he kept listening to whatever you had to say, never complaining.

“there were these pretty rings at this stall on knockturn alley. they were so beautiful with these butterflies and little flower engravings!” you gushed, pouting as you looked at your empty fingers. “i couldn’t buy them, though. rachel was in a hurry, and we didn’t have time to go shopping.”

jason only hummed in response, like he always did, signaling that he was listening to you. he walked around the table as he followed the recipe for the potion you were making in class today, not really bothered by your lack of help.

“ah, and there was this bracelet with a little golden snitch charm, which was the cutest thing ever!” you cooed, remembering the accessory you wanted. “but they sold them in pairs, and i don’t really have anyone to wear them with, so i didn’t buy those either.”

the brunet hummed again in response, frowning at the book in his hands. “the letters are smudged on this book. i’ll go get another one,” he stated, moving to the back of the class as you stayed in your place.

you never really minded jason not replying to your talks. just the fact that he listened meant a lot to you. 

but in the back of your head, you always wondered if he truly listened or just nodded to make you stop talking.

“the idiot ran away because you were talking his ears off.” your brows furrowed as you saw your gryffindor friend, rachel frowning. “he’s a slytherin, for merlin’s sake.”

“what’s that supposed to mean?”

gar sighed. “he’s not listening to what you are saying,” he confessed. “i know you are trying to make friends, but this guy is probably not it.” he gave a sympathetic smile.

“oh.”

“don’t get your heart broken, okay?” rachel walked by, ruffling your hair affectionately. “i don’t want to have any points taken off gryffindor for teaching a slytherin a lesson.”

you stayed silent after the exchange, taking this time to think about everything. maybe they are right. maybe that’s why he hasn’t been responding to me properly. you sighed, going back to taking notes on your work.

jason todd returned with another book, going back to his work — expecting you to continue your ramblings about your day. however, when you barely spoke to him, he raised his brows in concern, looking over at you.

“everything okay, y/n?”

“yeah, the potion seems to be brewing fine. no explosions so far.”

the brunet frowned, knowing very well that you knew he wasn’t talking about the potion. his gaze darted to the table behind you, noticing rachel and gar glancing over at you worriedly from time to time.

were you told to calm yourself down again? but why?

jason shouldn’t have felt anything when he saw you with a blank face — in fact, he shouldn’t have been dying to see you smile and ramble again, like you always did.

he only left you for two minutes, and you changed so drastically that he couldn’t help but think that he had something to do with it.

was it because he never replied properly? was it because he didn’t seem like he cared?

whatever it was, jason todd didn’t like it — mostly because he didn’t like seeing you sad.

the great hall was crowded, as always; the chattering and giggling of children filling the entire room. you sat with your friends, picking at your breakfast, completely oblivious to their looks of worry.

“hey, y/n.” gar broke the silence, getting your attention. “are you still down about yesterday? because–”

“i’m fine.”

“we just don’t want you to be hurt, okay? we could be wrong and–”

you dropped the fork in your hands, clattering it against your plate. “i get it, okay? i’m just kinda sad because i really thought of him as a friend,” you muttered, looking down.

gar half-heartedly smiled. “hey, maybe we can–” the screeching of an owl cut him off, followed by it swooping low by their table and dropping a little package.

right in front of you.

brows furrowed, you gently took the package in your hands, slowly removing the wrapping before opening the little box. 

a confused smile took over your face as you saw the very accessories you had been eyeing at knockturn alley.

all the way from the rings with the butterflies and little flower engravings to the bracelet with a little golden snitch charm; it was all in the box. 

did rachel feel bad and buy those as an apology? 

you noticed a note at the bottom of the box, realizing it was definitely not rachel as you read it. 

dear too much, i suck at this whole friendship thing, so i’m sorry if i ever make you feel like you are annoying me. i promise you are not, and i promise i am listening to you. sincerely, not much.

it didn’t take gar long to figure out who the package was from, seeing the way you smiled as you read the note.

plus, the way the slytherin kept trying to see your reaction from the other table wasn’t exactly slick either.

“from jason?” he asked, even though he already knew the answer.

“i guess he was actually listening to my stupid ramblings, after all.”

you looked at gar, furrowing your brows as he stifled a laugh. “gar, stop encouraging him!” you whined, covering your face as you saw jason open his mouth again to drop another cringy pickup line.

“they say kissing is a language of love,” jason paused, leaning his face closer to yours. “so, would you like to start a conversation with me?”

“wow, that’s actually a good one,” gar commented, raising his hands in surrender upon making eye-contact with you. “look, i gotta give him credit for where he deserves it.”

“garfield logan, i will end you with my own hands. i swear, i–”

“don’t blame me! i’m just amused at how this idiot is flirting with his own girlfriend.”

it was true. you and jason were dating for a few years now, yet his drunken habit remained the same; flirting with you as he was seeing you for the first time.

a startled gasp pulled you out of your thoughts, turning towards a surprised jason. “girlfriend?! you are my girlfriend?!” he asked, getting a nod from you. “wow, i can’t believe you are dating me. i’ve hit the lotto,” he muttered, pleasantly surprised.

you shook your head, chuckling as you moved towards the bar, getting a drink to help you deal with your boyfriend.

drunk jason was never troublesome, but his pick-up lines sure took a toll on the remaining braincells you had.

your alone time was cut short as jason and gar sat beside you, one of them mustering the best flirty smile he could offer while the other looked as tired as you.

you took a deep breath, preparing yourself for the next line jason was about to hit you with.

“i just thought i should let you know that i’m usually on top of things; would you like to be one of them, perhaps?”

a quiet gasp left your lips at his suggestive line, wondering where in the world he had gotten that from. gar seemed just as surprised, a tinge of amusement on his face as he looked impressed by his friend's pickup line.

"i really don't know if i should kick you off a bridge because you are annoying or kiss you because you are sickeningly adorable when drunk."

"why kick me when you can kiss me, pretty? you can't resist this. i’m too charming for my own good.”
