💡 How'd you come up with your OL? -- For TPH
Zelink Week 2024 prompts felt very linear, in a way? They felt like they could tell a cohesive story on their own! So, I followed the vibes and decided on writing a fairytale. ^^ Fun fact, I wrote a lot of it very last minute (while out of town), and one of the chapters is the most I've ever written in one day! (In all seriousness I hated TPH for a while because I lost so much sleep over it LOL)
💖 What's a detail you really love about your OL that you want to talk about more? -- For TML
Link and Zelda immediately are on the same wavelength when it comes to fighting a kingdom-wide cataclysmic storm to the death. I just think that's funny for them.
📜 What's a concept you want to use in an OL but haven't had a chance to yet?
Strings of Darkness is one I haven't shared any of on Tumblr, but it's got some concepts I'm REALLY excited to eventually mess with: protagonist Impa, Dark Link & Puppet Zelda team-up, everything just kind of flipped on its head. But it's a much darker story than most of my others (or at least is more "in your face" about it), and I don't know how many people would be interested in that, so I haven't shared it yet.

Link and Zelda follow Arn's instruction and find Kakariko Village, where they are instructed to meet with the town's mysterious Lady Impa.
Hyrule is a kingdom plagued with eternal storms by a vengeful mage. A young boy named Link joins a fire spirit and Princess Zelda to save both her father and the kingdom itself, but Link's own motives remain buried in the snow.

I apologize for such a long wait for such a dialogue-heavy chapter! I was having a difficult time determining what ideas to include here and which to limit to just a gameplay post! ^^" That, and life has a way of trying to squish you to death. Thanks for your patience and for sticking with me! 🙏

[ Linktober Day 13: Village ] [ The Mage's Lantern ]
Though the battle to save Darune was already won, there was no telling how many were to follow. As they made their way out into the greater storm, home grew further and further away...
THE MAGE'S LANTERN imagined as a game: Chapters 1-6
The following is a big block of text, so hit Read More to take a look!
Chapter 1
Chapter 1 would be an opening cutscene! Not much to say here! The prologue would be simple dialogue on a black screen that occasionally flashes with images of a stone mural. It would fade into the scene of Zelda's escape.
Chapter 2
In chapter 2, Link is awakened by his horse and goes to see his sister. Aryll tells Link that something has the village uneasy... So, Link goes out to inquire his father about it. It turns out there's a monster at the nearby Spectacle Rock! In the fic, Link goes straight to finding the source himself... but as a game, there'd be a fair number of side quests before he goes out! I would want this to be near reminiscent of a shorter Ordon Village segment.
Introduction
There would be a shot of the sign leading into Darune Village, as well as a pan out to a view of the village. There would be a few shots from different points in the village, showcasing the villagers in their usual busy routine of work: like Wane lighting the torches along the road (only for them to snuff out again and him stubbornly try again), Wulf riding a dog-pulled sled outside his family's shop, and finally Arn looking out towards the Northeast from the ranch.
The views of the village would conclude and cut to Link, sleeping beneath a tree within the stables' fencing. Epona is seen resting her head on his lap. She gets up, rubs her head on the tree, and walks off. Either from her shaking the tree or the subsequent breeze, a clump of snow falls from the branches and plops onto Link's nose. The chill shocks him awake. He looks out towards his house, just beyond the fencing, and gains a look of shock like he's forgotten something. He then looks back towards the stables and the horses' near-empty troughs. Once he stands up, he becomes playable.
Small Tutorials
Little tutorials are scattered subtly throughout this segment. Small pop-ups would appear to explain these things further, much like when learning the controls of BotW.
The GUI would appear as soon as Link wakes up from the fallen clump of snow. It initially leads to quest log and the map, which both are marked with where he should go next.
On the way back towards his house, the map encourages he complete his chores first. This would include the player going to the horses and feeding them, which later on would be used to signal Epona to dash while running and restore her energy while resting.
Most sidequests in Darune early on will be centered around learning mechanics.
In Ch 2, "Warm Apology" gets you acquainted with the shop and materials (as well as finding rupees), "Horse Training" gets you familiar with traveling on the horse, and "A Fishy Situation" gets you familiar with fishing.
When the events of Chapter 2 are taking place (specifically meeting Zelda), the player is given a combat tutorial against the Moblin. If they fail to defeat the moblin, Link blacks out and stubbornly tries again.
In Chapter 4, when Link is about to go to the Temple of Time, outfits are introduced. Specifically, the concept of layering. The more layers of clothing Link has equipped, the warmer he'll be in the coldest regions of Hyrule. However, it's also an option to wear fewer layers with warmer attributes — making mobility increase.
There will be one final set of small mechanic tutorials in Ch 7.
Sidequests
Warm Apology
Link accidentally slept through the time he meant to spend time with Aryll... to make it up to her, go searching for some rupees under the stones around town or in small piles of snow to buy one of the shop's most expensive items: amber safflina, a plant from the Gerudo region that can warm someone up when used in soups or teas. After this quest, safflina will only restock in the town after the completion of major dungeons (as they are very good fuel for Searis).
This quest would appear if you went back to talk to Aryll after the mini-cutscene where she tells Link about their father.
Horse Training
A local girl named Malon, a friend of Link, is having difficulty getting the horses to listen to her due to a scare from the monstrous call out afar. Mount and soothe each of the horses and lead them back into the stable with straw provided by Malon. This is a minor tutorial to prepare the player for the later inclusion of Epona as Link's steed.
This quest available throughout most of the "early game," but the reward is rupees - so it is best done before "Warm Apology."
A Fishy Situation
Arn finds difficulty in getting his employees focused with a monster apparently on the loose... Perhaps something could help keep their minds off of it?
Link can ask around among the employees for a decent clue, and it seems like they're all hungry to some degree... That should do it!
Go to the pond near the village and see old man Linebeck. He's a bit grumpy, but he'll teach you how to use a spear to stab one right out of the water! (Really. He'll teach you. If you mess up even slightly he will show you again). Unfortunately, you have to pay him for any advice beyond the basics... Sometimes his demands are rather average, like rupees, but other times they're flat out tedious!
The more Link visits the fishing hole in the later game, the more Linebeck seems to ease up and give Link advice without asking for anything in exchange.
Battle Tutorial
When Link finally ventures out towards Spectacle Rock... there seems to be somebody in danger! He has to spring into action, and quickly!
Link can first start by lifting a small chip of rock nearby and tossing it towards the Moblin to distract it. This can be helpful in later dungeons.
The mysterious girl on Spectacle Rock assists, throwing stones and rolling boulders down towards the monster.
After obtaining the Moblin's spear, the player would be prompted with the proper buttons for combat (however, the spear will function more like the one used for fishing and not like the swordfighting that will be learned later!)
Yikes! The moblin runs into the wall, causing the ice spikes on the cliff face to fall right into it. That finishes it off. This is a bit of a warning: the environment in Hyrule is harsh, and would be capable of harming the player in the same way...
Main Quest Text
Like in BotW's original translation, The Hero of Flame's quest narrations are in first-person. He is very distractable at times, so he makes sure to jot everything down in a journal. Whenever a new quest update is prompted, the player would automatically be shown this message appearing in the Quest menu.
Delayed Start (Pre-Aryll)
I woke up in the ranch this morning. Bad idea... It was freezing. And even worse, I promised I'd check on Aryll and see if she's feeling any better after chores. She'll never let me hear the end of it... I can't believe I forgot!
...
I better get those chores done so I can make sure she's okay.
Find Papa (Post-Aryll)
Aryll said Papa was worried about something at Spectacle Rock? She thought I'd run off to handle it myself... Am I really that bad??
...
Anyway, I'm gonna see what's going on. Papa would tell me, and then I can tell Aryll... and maybe help the situation, if I can.
The Mysterious Prowl (Post-Arn)
A monster is causing a lot of trouble over at Spectacle Rock, it sounds like... Papa doesn't want me getting close, but can we really ignore something like that? What if it comes to Darune? The least I can do is investigate it. I'll relay what I see back to Papa.
A Fateful Meeting (Post-Zelda)
The monster at Spectacle Rock was a moblin, now that I really think about it. A moblin! I've never seen one in person before... but it matches the description of one my mama fought a long time ago.
...
But that's not it! It was bothering a girl I've never seen before (which is weird, I've not met anyone new in a long time)... She had jade eyes and a really nice cloak, I think she's from castle town: Zelda, I think it was. Why's that so familiar...? It'll come to me later, I'm sure. I hope she made it back to her father okay...
Chapter 3
This chapter would be a mysterious cutscene show after the player returns Link to Darune Village. It would take care not to show the "dark one," as Aspen calls him, directly (ex: his face would be obscured). It would serve as a continuation of the introductory cutscene when the game was started up, as well as allude to the moblin in Chapter 2's origin. It would then fade out, leading into Chapter 4.
Chapter 4
Chapter 4 would begin after the Chapter 3 cutscene, with Aryll patching up Link's clothes. Link would be given some minor dialogue options during this conversation with his sister. At first, the only thing to do afterward is have Link rest; which leads to the vision that leads the player to the temple. This is also where they meet Searis, and it is probably the most heavily "scripted" portion overall of the tutorial portion.
The Vision
The vision Link has when he rests is halfway a continuation of the prologue, and would have similar visuals in parts.
The player would be able to re-watch this vision if they go back to bed, but without the silly interruption from Epona. This would apply all the way until Link finds the lantern.
The House
This first section keeps the player confined to the house, for now, but they are now able to explore the entire house. (Earlier on, trying to do so would've prompted Link thinking, "Sigh... There's no time for that right now!")
There are certain details in the house that may catch the player's attention: such as a painting of the Temple of Time, hand-made mitts made by Aryll for handling the hearth, an iron that probably hasn't been properly hung over the fireplace in a few years, and drawings of Link and Aryll's missing mother from when they were little. Very few of the drawings saved are Link's - those that are are usually just drawings of food. They're probably supposed to have been lists.
The player can find Link's scarf in the closet of his bedroom over a mess of scrap fabric and old clothes. This will prompt Aryll to speak to Link about their father, who has returned home in the face of the brewing storm. Special attention is drawn to the painting Arn takes down from the wall.
In Link's closet after speaking to Arn, the player can mix and match materials Link already has to try and optimize both warmth and mobility. This would be explained in a small tutorial pop-up like in other sections.
Braving the Cold
On the outskirts of the village, heading towards the Tempoe of Time, the game would lock certain side missions if not already completed (hence, there'd be a bit of narration text such as: "Are you sure you want to head out now? There may be more to do first...")
Going to the Temple of Time would be the player's first instance of traveling in the harsh wilderness of Hyrule. Although it isn't a far stretch, it has dangers the player has not yet been exposed to such as swarms of keese and dangerous weather.
The way the player chooses to layer Link's clothes will affect his speed and resistance to the cold.
Using the spear retrieved from the fight against the Moblin, the player must ward off Roclings, small crow-like monsters that thrive in the desolate cold regions of Hyrule and pester travelers.
Entering the Temple of Time
Link's dream of the Temple of Time would be a cutscene.
Upon entering the buried temple's grounds, Link comes face-to-face with sudden sinking spots in the snow where it hasn't packed between the pillars and towers. These would appear in many other places in Hyrule, so it's best to get used to evading them early on - until Link can obtain an item to either walk over them entirely or easily pull his way out.
Within the Temple of Time
The player must fend off swarms of keese upon entry, mostly appearing through doorways and dark spaces.
Occasionally, Link may find Gossip Stones that remain silent for now. They resemble horned bullfrogs and have their faces covered by cloth with the Eye of Hylia (symbol of the Sheikah, something unfamiliar to Link) embroidered upon it.
The temple begins dark, so it's difficult to navigate (giving some incentive to get the lantern once Link comes across it).
The chamber containing the namesake lantern is one that is clearly dedicated to companions of former games. Many tapestries have designs of fairies, but there are also the familiar shapes of the Twilight Princess and the spirit of a forgotten blade. Link thinks, when interacting with them, that he finds them a bit familiar from stories his mother told him when he was little. This chamber is illuminated by the lantern and a stained glass window overhead (the only one so far not covered by snow).
Initiate Searis cutscene!
Meeting Searis
When Link first touches the Lantern, the screen would flash with the image of the red-haired woman from his vision, ashes falling upon the ground, and then another woman with white hair awakening in a start somewhere far away. Link would not acknowledge this.
After obtaining the Lantern, the player can explore the rest of the Temple of Time if they so please. This will require more fights against Keese, but the clumps of hair they drop can be useful for improving the warmth of certain garments (and the eyes for improving warm elixirs, as Link eventually learns). Searis seems very enthusiastic to help you fight them - after failing to boss them around...
There are certain passages in the Temple of Time that become closed off after Link enters. This means he has to find an alternative route back to the place he entered from; Searis teaches Link how to use him to light already-set-up torches. Doing this makes the place warmer, requiring less on-hand precaution against the cold!
If you return to the ladder from another route to exit from the Temple of Time, Searis will be prompted to ask about Link's reasoning for finding him. This would be where the game gives you the option to rest for a time and explain. Doing so will prompt the cutscene that is Chapter 5 (if I use it at all instead of revealing it later) as they gaze upon the distant storm.
Main Quest Text (2)
Burying Secrets (Post-Aryll Cutscene)
Aryll wouldn't believe me about the moblin, at first, though I don't know why. She's seen me fight monsters before! Even if they were smaller...
...
I can't stop worrying about that girl. I hope she got home okay. Whenever someone goes out into the snowfields, you never really know if they'll come back or not. You say, "see you later," but that's sort of debatable, I guess.
...
That's kinda why I can't tell papa. I gotta hope he doesn't see my outer shirt got torn up...
...
I need a nap.
Waking Up in a Cold Sweat (Post-Vision)
I saw her again. Maybe I'm getting sick, too... My head feels hot, but my hands won't stop shivering...
...
The sound of crackling fire and cracking ice led me to an old building. I've never seen a building so deeply buried. It's like the storm's telling me not to wonder about it! But... that just makes me do it anyway. There was something inside, and I think that's what she was walking towards.
...
I didn't get to see the rest of the dream. It'll probably bother me for a while, but I got stuff to do... My scarf should be in my closet. I'll need it.
...
Just where have I seen that place before?
Deja Vu (Post-Painting)
The painting! That's where I've seen that place! It's where mama and papa got married, the Temple of Time. It should be northwest of here...
...
Everyone's moving to the cellars now, but I'll be fine if I hurry! Just a quick look...
Entering the Temple (Temple of Time Located)
I found it! Phew! The storm is getting worse, but I think I can see the bell towers up there. Please don't let there be any more sinkholes...
Navigating the Temple (Temple Entered)
I'm inside. It's dark in here and there's those annoying Keese everywhere! Yuck! Maybe there's a little sense of satisfaction taking care of them, but I'd rather they just leave me alone. If only these torches were lit... I hope I get lucky and find some flint around here. It's good for starting fires.
The Spirit of Flame (Lantern Found)
I found a lantern in the creepy center room. With all the cryptic banners and the strange spotlight, I guess I should have expected something about it to be off, but...
...
The lantern's alive. No, it's housing something alive. It calls itself Searis, and it's a living flame. I think it might actually be a spirit! Who knew spirits had an attitude...
...
Was this what I needed to find? Can I really get this guy to help everyone?
...
He doesn't seem all that interested.
The Brewing Storm (Temple Exited)
When I left the temple, the storm was just as bad as it was in my dream. I've seen it get bad before. Not this bad, though... Someone could get lost out here, and fast! I sure won't let it be me!
...
Searis might just make getting home possible, yet I've got this bad feeling... like something horrible has happened.
Chapter 5
Chapter 5 is a little uncertain. It is the event that prompts Zelda to flee the palace for good and gives her the motivation to save her father from Ganondorf and Aspen. This would either be a long cutscene after Chapter 4, or it would be one shown later on (when Zelda recounts the event to Link).
Chapter 6
Chapter 6 follows Link reuniting with Zelda, and ultimately deciding that he would like to help her.
Zelda's Escape
A snippet of Zelda's escape is included in the fic to focus in on her grief and set up her character arc.
That being said, I'd love to include it as a segment where she's playable, maybe? There are a few other opportunities elsewhere in the story where something similar could be done. (This would only work in the case that Chapter 5 is shown as a cutscene after finding the lantern). If nothing else, Zelda levels could be accessible via a bonus level feature like the dojo in Echoes of Wisdom?
Reuniting with Princess Zelda
Departing from the Temple of Time, the player revisits the path towards Darune Town. Link noticeably is dealt less problems from the cold now that Searis is present, especially when he stays close by. (There would be a certain button to tell Searis to wander a little ways as well as call him back to Link's side/the lantern).
On the way, the storm becomes more intense and calms down in an intermittent pattern. This provides an emphasis on the temperature mechanic and how Searis affects it for the player.
Upon returning to town, there is a cutscene as Link and Searis come upon Zelda, wounded. This plays out the same as the written version, and the player ends up back in the house.
Shelter in the Cellar & Cooking
When the player is returned to the house, dialogue exchanges are available with both Arn and Aryll. Completing both strings of dialogue prompts Arn to ask Link to help with cooking. (Trying to leave the cellar will cause the doors to immediately slam back shut on Link's face due to the wind. Arn would say something like, "Link! I know you want to check on things, but how about we worry about this girl you brought in before we go chasing frostbite?")
In the section where Link gathers the ingredients for his father, there would be a brief tutorial on cooking ingredients. The primary examples would be those likely stored in the cellar: hyrule herbs, pumpkin preserves, and salted meat. In the game version, Link would actually get to cook a little bit for himself in advance just to give the player a chance to see the results. This tutorial would be given through Link's recollection of his father teaching him. (Showing Arn the wrong collection of ingredients will lead him to scold Link on fooling around at a time like this, embarrassing Link...)
After successfully cooking and telling Arn about the gathered ingredients, Aryll wakes up Zelda. There's a brief cutscene before they eat and Zelda tries to leave as well. Once she is convinced to wait out the storm, the scene fades to black.
Chores Quest... Again.
The next "day" starts with the storm having subsided. Link is promptly given errands to run by Arn that reinforce smaller mechanics learned earlier in the ranch, such as taking care of the horses. The player only has to do one of these, but it is strongly encouraged by NPCs to go and check with everyone in the village before proceeding.
A Fishy Situation (2)
Some folks are busy repairing the damages from the winds, others out salvaging whatever materials they can find, and others trying to relax the dogs and the livestock... Unfortunately, that means everyone is hungry! Linebeck has been asked for fish by basically everyone, and it's driving him crazy. What does he look like, everyone's errand boy!? He declares he'll get an actual errand boy to take off some of the load (aka, Link).
First, Link does some more spear fishing with Linebeck (though Linebeck critiques his technique regardless of the player's performance). After catching a few from multiple fishing spots around the area, Linebeck comments something under his breath about getting the boy a better set of equipment... He refuses to acknowledge this after the fact. He says he's surprised he can even trust Link with this kind of work with his reputation!
Linebeck tells Link that one bundle of fish needs to be delivered to the Dog n' Sled Rental whereas the other needs to be cooked and then delivered to the repair team. He, meanwhile, lounges.
Link is able to keep a couple of leftover fish because Searis says Linebeck can catch his own. Link feels a bit guilty about this but goes along with it anyway. These fish can end up being used in the "Lamplit Morning" side quest.
Lamplit Morning
The storm took out most of the village's posts. The ones that haven't fallen down are snuffed out! Wane, the man who runs around and keeps Darune lit up in spite of the Silver Tempest alongside handling most material exchange, is exhausted. He's been running in circles all morning, but it's still just too cold! Too breezy! Everything he lights immediately goes out, and he's devastated...
By going around the village and touching the lantern's magical flame to the torch heads and lamps, a stronger light latches onto them. They don't instantly go out! When Link goes to report to this, Wane's mother (the shopkeeper, Kyndlewax), requests he do one more thing while he's out; and for that she'll even pay him! She requests he get some milk from Talon's ranch to lift Wane's spirits a little, since it's his favorite.
At the Ranch, Talon is fast asleep. Ingo is outside complaining that he has to do all the hard work after the rough weather, but other ranch workers comment that Malon handled everything before she went back to the Stables... Regardless, Ingo refuses to sell anything to Link because he's too frustrated. He tells Link to scram, but he can't just give up!
Searis suggests making some serious noise to wake up Talon. By talking to Searis again while standing in the middle of the cows, the spirit decides it'll make some noise by revealing its face and scaring all the livestock! Link panics, but it seems to work out in the end... Talon leaves his spot just as the player herds the cows back into place (either with the spear, Searis, or feeding the dogs so they get to work). Grateful for Link's help, he gives him two bottles of milk for free!
Wane is shocked! Someone delivering something to him?! He can't believe it! He tells Link he owes him one. When the player goes to speak to Kyndlewax afterward, she gives Link a rather meager portion of rupees. But it's better than nothing, right?
Calming the Horses
On the way to the Ranch for the "Lamplit Morning" mission, the player may notice the horses at the stable are acting skittish. They are huffing, bobbing their heads around, and even kicking up snow! Arn's employees lament that they can't even get the horses into their pens! Could the storm have riled them up that badly?
Upon talking to some of the employees, a few reveal they were shut in the barn with the horses all night to make sure they were okay (and Arn had to shovel them a way out early that morning). Maybe it wasn't just the storm...
Some crows are huddled in the rafters of the stable after the storm, but it doesn't seem to be what's bothering them.
The horses still seem agitated... What could be making them so uneasy? Upon investigating, high-pitched noises come from the barn. Checking inside, Link finds his worst nightmare... a flock of Keese wildly gathering in the loft! Take care of them with the damaged spear retrieved from Spectacle Rock.
Suddenly, the horses are much more at ease. Finish the quest by finally retrieving the horse's feed and giving them some breakfast! Malon cheers Link on but scolds him for expecting something in return for doing his job every time. The reward is that the keese are gone.
The player can occasionally head back to the cellar to check on Zelda and Aryll (Aryll is trying and failing to break the ice with the princess...), or they can check how the rest of the townspeople have responded to the blizzard.
Once the side quests are completed* or the player has gone back to report to Arn that chores are finished, Zelda has moved outside. Talking to her will initiate the final section of the tutorial (more in Chapters 7 & 8 as-a-game post).
*If the player did every available sidequest of the three, Arn notices Link's outer layer of clothes has begun to tear more and provides the player with bonus clothing materials such as a bundle of cloth.
Main Quest Text (3)
Sudden Reunion (Found Zelda)
I met that girl again. She was bleeding. I can't tell how bad, but "bad" isn't out of the question...
...
Why was she out here? Right now? Talk about bad luck... I gotta get her somewhere safe! I know Papa will let her in!
Returned to the Cellar (Post-Cutscene 1)
Zelda's not just Zelda, she's Princess Zelda. I had no idea! Papa made it sound like I'd be in trouble even though I helped...
...
I don't really know what princesses do, but I guess fighting monsters falls in line with what Mama used to tell me. Still, who'd make her go out to do that alone? Or... maybe she's just... like me, I guess.
...
Either way, there's still more work to do before she's bandaged up. When Papa's cooking, he prepares the ingredients, gets a small fire going, and keeps an eye on everything while it cooks! I guess he just wants me to do that first part, though it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a little test. The cellar's been unused since winter.
Another Morning (Post-Cooking, Cutscene 2)
When Princess Zelda woke up last night, she seemed different than when I met her. If that was her scared, then her worry with the moblin at Spectacle Rock must have been a minor inconvenience!
...
I think I can see why, though. If the King's really in trouble, then... When will she see him again? No one can know. That's scarier than any dumb ol' monster by a long shot.
...
Papa says the most I can do to help right now is chores. Like I don't do that every day! He has no idea how far off he is. When I get done with chores, I'll find some way Searis and I can do something really helpful.
Look for Zelda (Post-Chores Quests)
Chores are done, so Darune is one step closer to recovering after the worse storm yesterday. It had a little impact, after all!
Now that I'm free of all that, I should go find the princess. She should be waiting in the cellar with Aryll, still... I want her to know that she doesn't have to deal with this alone as long as she's with us.

◇▪︎ Darune Town ▪︎◇
Concept map (2024).
Darune Town (also known as Darune Village among the townspeople) is a settlement constructed where
Fun Fact! ❄️ You may notice that the color of Zelda's eyes is described a lot— specifically as "jade." She's one of those people with eyes that stand out due to the bright color. But despite the third-person omniscient narrator of the story, the "jade" descriptor specifically is taken from Link's perspective. He has a hard time looking her in the eye but often tries to anyway.
Fun Fact! ❄️ While this Link is one of the most calm versions of him I've written (he's usually at least a little mischievous), he gets into the same amount of trouble. He is seriously impulsive, which he's slowly become self-aware of after a certain recent incident; but even when he thinks before acting, he takes very little convincing before doing something reckless.
Fun Fact! ❄️ Spectacle Rock has a natural bridge connecting the two largest formations. Coincidentally, the two sides of the story (Link and Zelda's) were bridged there. I'm going to pretend that was on purpose.
