First Kiss - Mockings Hall by TomiStaccato

For Everlarkedalways Everlark Love challenge. This excerpt is from one of  my favorite fics of all time, Mockings Hall, by TomiStaccato. It’s a complex, moving alternate AU that sadly, has not been updated in a while but I hold out hopes for a resolution. It is still a wonderful read - just be forewarned. Though being AU it captures something of the desperation Katniss and Peeta must have felt during their nightmares and the comfort they bring to each other.

Her face again was once again contorted in pain and she was thrashing her limbs wildly.

Peeta called out to her, his own nightmare still flashing through the back of his mind. He realized at that moment that they were two broken people because what they went through was so damaging. They would always be haunted and scarred by their actions, visible on their psyche like cracks on a broken vase put back together.

Katniss awoke, and was crying and shivering again.

He reached out and soothed her with words he said to himself to calm down. He leaned in and stroked her cheek with utmost care. They were the only ones who could console one another.

When she was almost asleep, in a desperate attempt to ease both their terrors,  he gave the last comfort he could share and the only comfort he could take from her.

Peeta kissed her softly, gently.

In it, he tasted her salty tears and the last of her pleading cries.

Spent a sunny day in my neighborhood with jetsetter and fanfic beauty Tomi Staccato yesterday, sampling L.A. goodies and talking into the evening at my little dwelling. My throat is happily raw now. So much fun, my friend!

I just got this from one of my favorite writers ever, Tomistaccato.  When I'm done here, I think I'll go faint :).  

1)  For three years in college, my roommate was my brother, which I'm glad I did.

2)  In a moment of confusion, I studies 1.5 years to become a genetic engineer and then changed my mind to study literature.  Not even related to each other :).  But now I know stuff.

3)  In another moment of existential confusion, I got a bartender's license and at the same time worked as a makeup artist for Estee Lauder.    So I can mix pretty good drinks and give you that smoky, District 12 look :).

4) I work well with difficult people.  Students and teachers tend to like working with me.

5)  I make an extra effort not to be rude or short with anyone.  So when I lose it, it's pretty epic.

1. I play violin and can sing.

2. I´m perfect at grammar. I guess those thousands of hours spent reading are worth something.

3. I don´t need much and I´m thrifty.

4. I don´t spoil my children and I try to raise them to be content with little. (Very demanding task with over-generous grandparents.)

5. I have no shame when it comes to dancing. I´m always the first one on the dance floor - and I can dance all alone, if nobody bothers to join me.

Bestie, you already know my initial reaction to Poet, so here's the rest: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I was all at the same time electrified, stupefied, mouth-agape, breathless, amazed, exhilarated, and completely taken with Poet. There was an underlying sensuality that was heightened by Peeta's words. And the words! Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Incredible! *slow clap*
