Suddenly terribly consumed by the need to see POC versions of some of the other TMBS characters. Particularly a Black Mr. Benedict. I think a Black Mr. Benedict would be a beautiful thing.

#it's about how the books do such a lovely job capturing neurodiversity #and the way society can estrange you for being 'other'#and the way that definitely includes being POC #it's about Mr. Benedict offering community and safety and family for kids who were like him #too clever #too different #too alone #and I really like the idea of a Black man who has maybe been impacted by an unjust system in these ways and maybe others #making his own vibrant community where people feel loved and accepted #for exactly who they are #where they can 'fit' in a way that can be stupidly hard to do in a dominantly white society #or a neurotypical society #doubly so if you're neurodivergent and POC in that intersectional way that existing in the world we live in can make that extra challenging #also I just feel like we need more black characters who are older and clever and compassionate and lovely #the world deserves that #people deserve to see that in themselves #and drawing a Black Mr. Benedict isn't the same as creating those characters #but oooh I would love to see it #adding this to my 'things to draw once I know how to draw' list for sure for sure #tmbs #the mysterious benedict society
