DFF Ep9 Recap: Who knows what?

Let's take a moment to remember what, if anything, each of the DFF characters knows about what happened to Non (so far) now that we've made it back to the present.

Disclaimer: this is based on what we know as of episode 9, though there's a potential that any/all characters know more and we'll find that out later!

Por:

As far as we know, Por knows the least, which probably explains why he's so chill about Non coming up in the present. All he really knows is that they stole the script, and that Top and Tee took Non away. And he knows that Tee is the reason Non opened the bank account.

Top:

Top knows Non didn't break the camera. He knows Tee set Non up to take the fall for him. He knows Non was involved with Keng and saw them together firsthand. He knows they stole the script, and he knows that Tee was the reason Non opened the accounts.

Top was also the one who helped Tee take Non away before he disappeared, so he likely knows that Tee's family was involved in that disappearance.

We can speculate that Top might know more than that. Top might know just how shady Tee's family is, because they're very close. We see in episode 6 that Tee asks Top for a "favor" and then Top is one of the only ones who doesn't open an account later... it seems like Top knows better than anyone else just what kind of stuff Tee and his family are into, and doesn't care.

Fluke:

Fluke knows a lot. Fluke knows that Top broke the camera and Tee set up Non for it. He knows that they stole the script and that Tee and Top took Non away. He also knows that Non said that the reason he got them to open the accounts was due to Tee.

Fluke also knows that Jin took the video that was later released... and later in the present, he says he knows that Tee was the one who released the video.

n the present, Fluke also knows that Tee's uncle is the one behind the money laundering. Since he neither seems surprised or upset about the information, it's likely that the rest of the original group knows it as well.

Tee:

Tee knows that Top broke the camera, he knows he framed Non for it, and he knows that he got Non wrapped up in money laundering. He knows that Non was involved with Keng to get money. He knows that they stole the script and that they took Non to Tee’s uncle, and he may be the last one to see Non alive.

Jin:

Jin knows that he took the video, and he also knows that they stole the script and that Tee and Top took Non away. He also knows that Non said that the reason he got them to open the accounts was due to Tee.

Jin also suspected that Non wasn't the one who broke the camera, but he never got confirmation. And he knows that Non repaid Por for the camera, but not where he got the money.

Phee and Tan:

They know that Non’s script was stolen and that Non was supposed to have been on a trip with the boys when they disappeared. They know that Non was caught in a video with Keng.

They've also read over the script that Non left behind, which included details about being framed, being forced into doing dirty work for money, etc.

Phee knows (and I'm sure told Tan) about Non being involved with the accounts. But Non must not have told Phee every detail, because if he did, Phee and Tan would've focused more on going after Tee instead of sussing information out of Jin or the others.

In the present, they know that Non definitely filmed with the boys at some point, but not when. They know that Por felt guilty.

Tan knows that Fluke pointed the finger at Tee for the camera breaking and the video release, and Fluke also says that they "killed someone."

Phee knows that Jin is hallucinating Keng in the temple, but he doesn't know why.

What Phee and Tan don't know:

Why and how Non got wrapped up in the accounts

What and who his connection to the accounts was

Why he got involved with Keng

Who took the video (not even Non knew this, so whoever posted it used a burner)

Who released it

Where Non was when he disappeared or who he was with

White:

As far as we know, so far, White doesn't know anything. All he knows is that Non was a "friend" of the group who disappeared, and he's seen a video of all of them partying.

White didn't even know who Tee's uncle ins, so it's safe to say he's fairly innocent. But now, at least, he knows that Tee's family is into shady stuff, and he also heard Fluke talking about "killing, video releases, and broken cameras."

Hallucination or Real?

I'm going to catalog every instance of something weird being seen/heard/experienced and try to figure out if it was a hallucination or really happening.

This post will be long, info and spoilers under the cut.

DISCLAIMER: This post is made with the assumption that none of the group is in on Tan and Phee's scheme.

Event: Spooky sounds in the woods

Who: Por

Hallucination or real?: Unclear. Probably hallucination.

Event: Groping

Who: Tee

Hallucination or real?: Unclear.

I can't decide if this is real or not, because I don't think that an actual person would be able to get close enough without them noticing. Though White does say, directly before, that he feels like they're being watched. On the other hand, all of the other hallucinations evoke fear-responses from the people who see them (and that's the point of the drug). So why wouldn't Tee be scared of this happening?

Event: Figure outside the house

Who: Por

Hallucination or real?: Real

Like Por's next hallucination, I don't buy that these visions he's seeing were "coincidentally" just what was needed to have him impale himself on a stake out in the woods. I think someone lured him out there and then scared him into running so he would impale himself.

Event: Screaming

Who: Jin

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

This could be real, since Phee is the only other person there and he could pretend not to hear it. But my money is on it just being a hallucination, since we haven't been told/shown that Tan and Phee have set up anything like speakers, etc. to scare the boys.

Event: Figure in the woods

Who: Por

Hallucination or real?: Real

As I said above, I don't believe that Por hallucinated this. Because it would've had to put him in exactly the right place at exactly the right time in order to scare him into running into the stick that impaled him. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

Event: Figure in the woods/chanting

Who: Top & Tee, but separately

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

Top sees a figure and hears chanting and then points it out and Tee can't see it (and didn't hear anything). Then Top hears more chanting, but doesn't see anything. But Tee sees the figure, and Top can't see it. I think it's safe to chalk both of these instances up to hallucinations, and the reason they're similar is because the ghost is already on their minds. Though it IS possible it was the same masked, ghostly figure that scared Por before.

Who: Top

Hallucination or real?: Unclear

Tan isn't accounted for during this haunting, so it's distinctly likely he was the one in the costume. And we're never shown if the ax is caught in the door or not.

Event: Rash & ghost outside

Who: White

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

Event: Computer malfunction

Who: Jin, White, Phee, and Fluke

Hallucination or real?: A bit of both

Jin sees something strange that the others done, then White hears something the others don't. But then the sound overloading and the computer shorting out is real.

Event: Strangulation

Who: Fluke

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

I think that the ghostly figure in this scene could've really been there, but the strangulation event itself was fake, because Por couldn't move like that.

Event: Mysterious figure, screaming, and chanting

Who: Tan

Hallucination or real?: Unclear

Tan shouldn't be seeing hallucinations, which makes this one so tricky. My assumption is the figure he saw is really there, and the same one that was in Fluke's vision. But I'm not sure about the screaming/chanting.

Who: Tee

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

Tee sees something but Top doesn't, so it's a hallucination.

Event: Figure in the woods

Who: Top

Hallucination or real?: Unclear (probably real)

My suspicion is that this one is real, since Tan is the one with Top. AND since Top says that Tan is the one who gave him directions for their route. I'm guessing Tan led him into a trap and drugged him.

Who: Jin, Phee, Tan, and Tee

Hallucination or real?: Real

Obviously we know this is a drugged!Top under the mask.

Event: Keng in the temple

Who: Jin

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

Phee doesn't see Keng here, and in episode 9 Jin is clearly shown to hallucinate Keng again and Phee has to snap him out of it. So this is a hallucination.

Event: Keng in the Temple, part 2

Who: Jin

Hallucination or real?: Hallucination

Phee doesn't see Keng and has to slap Jin to snap him out of it. This is a hallucination.

I don't know why I made this, I just wanted to get my thoughts in order on if there's a ninth person involved and if so, where we can see their presence. But I'm not sure this proved much of anything at all ahahahahaha

Do we know what everybody’s majors are? I think they mentioned in the show itself that Jin is some sort of communication arts, White is computer science, Fluke is medicine, and Phee is directing (which is interesting, since that was most likely going to be Non’s major - wonder if he chose it because of that?).

I’ve seen some translated posts that Tan’s major is biochemistry, but haven’t been able to find a one stop shop of all the character profiles.

I had to dig around for this, but I found the translation of the character profiles that were posted. I'm going to post the pictures below (credit for the translation goes to @.ohmsnon on Twitter).

I posted all of them for reference, but for the top few you can see everyone's education departments at the bottom!

With high Top asking about TeeWhite sexy times and whether he could've joined makes us think that either

-he's last virgin standing and just super inappropriate questions because horny teen boy. And ya know, he's Top

OR

- pre-White, Tee and Top would sometimes fool around when high or drunk. Starting as a 'another hand is more fun than my own' and just progressing from there.

If the latter, White certainly doesn't know and would sooner claw someone's face off than share his man. White does not share.
