to the karasuno volleyball club, your affection for tanaka ryuunosuke seemed to resemble that of a sibling. in fact, hinata had once commented that it was "like a second big sis, but even cooler!" although you didn't care as much for the term of "sis" as saeko seemed to, you and tanaka took great amusement in the whole thing. why should you explain, when the two of you already had everything you needed? tanaka, of course, had hinted to nishinoya multiple times through his decreased behaviour towards generally pretty people, but noya had not yet figured it out either.
your favourite part of this relationship by far was the way that moments were few and far between with days around the team. days marching the town or fooling around in the neighbourhoods at dusk, yours and a few others' laughter echoing off of the houses at the end of the street and meeting you again.
neither of you had really had something so simple. mutual feelings, easygoing relationship, trust. of course there were flaws in what you had going — for starters, a shared friend group who, if they caught wind about you, would turn it into a whole thing and unintentionally make the two of you insecure.
or at least, that's what you expected.
but when, after several minutes of kissing tanaka and laughing about something coincidental ennoshita had said, his back against the pole of a power line, neither of you had expected to notice hinata stopped several feet away with his face bright red and his mouth wide open, a millisecond from yelling. you both covered your mouths and broke apart from each other, not embarrassed to be with each other but incredibly unsure of how to react to the circumstances.
your mind could only compare it to seeing a child react to seeing their parents kiss, and you nearly snorted as you said, "wait, hinata, it's not what you think."
"it is what you think, hinata," tanaka countered, a grin on his face. "surprised, you li'l sneak?"
"it's okay, hinata, take your time," you said, watching his reaction and exchanging glances with tanaka with utmost glee. and you thought to yourself... maybe not telling everyone wasn't going to have a huge impact on your relationship, but seeing this reaction made all the sneaking about quite worth it.
