The road and the tale have both been long, would you not say so? The trip has been long and the cost has been high... but no great thing was ever attained easily. A long tale, like a tall Tower, must be built a stone at a time. The Dark Tower Stephen King,
A nice guide I made to help people trying to talk with a tower junkie.
Inspiration and Process #1
Piece: The Dark Tower
“ I love artist depictions of The Dark Tower as a medieval fortress of crumbling stones, but there is something so appealing about the Tower as an organic growth--stirring from the earth and dirt as it crookedly reaches for the sky. I wanted to depict it in that way, and also have a rose as its roots, to symbolize Can'-Ka No Rey. I decided to add a quote about Ka ( ‘Ka works and the world moves on’) to really bring home that Tower junkie feel.”
Any questions about me, the process or a piece? Feel free to send me a message or an ask!
The strangest thing about being a Tower junkie...
...is that it's pull can just come out of nowhere.
For months, perhaps even years, you could leave it perfectly out of your mind, even while visiting a message board dedicated to it on a regular basis (which I genuinely do, although it's mostly the community that I adore).
And then BAM! Out of nowhere, the craving for reading Dark Tower stuff - anything Dark Tower related - just arrives. That need to read every book - whether part of the series or just connected to it (although for me, stuff with Roland and his ka-tet is better, I love those characters so, so much) - suddenly fills you, just like that. Even if you're in the middle of a great book already - even if it's by Stephen King, for crying out loud - that need to read Dark Tower material is so all-consuming.
I'm saying all this because I just read 300 pages of volume 3: The Waste Lands today. By my standards, that's a record. Seriously, I love reading, but I'm the slowest reader ever - I'm lucky if my reading speed is even one page a minute (usually, it's between 30 to 40 pages an hour). But I had such a craving all week that I just got up this morning, started reading, and, bar the occasional break for internet and That '70s Show, (oh, and food, of course,) I haven't really stopped. The most I've read in a day is 200, so it's nice to know I can read this much in one day, if a book's that special.
And I know this feeling will go eventually, but right now? Damn, do I fucking love it!
"A long tale, like a tall Tower, must be built a stone at a time" First tattoo! Of course it would be the Dark Tower, and KA...
