Blissful Winter Forest. . . We hiked along the frozen river through snow so thick and tall it came up to our knees. We stood amongst trees so still and silent the intensity of it was enough to paralyze you right in place. In between posing for more serious artistic photos, snow started to trickle down through the silent forest, and as I looked up at the giant white trees I was nestled in between, my eyes watered, my heart beat faster and a rush of emotion ignited a giant smile across my face. . . Mother Winter is taking her time around here, we have gotten more snow in the last couple weeks then we have all winter and as I write this the snow is still coming down! I for one am not upset about this one bit. Our snow melt mountains will be dense and full and wet and able to nourish our lands deep into the warm summer days. I trust remembering what I wrote about yesterday. I trust knowing Lady Spring will emerge when she sees fit, and in the meantime our Mother Winter is telling us all we need to rest just a bit longer. Marinate in the quiet and calm and cold just a little bit longer. Think about our intentions for spring just a little bit longer. These days are my favorite days. . . I am taking this time as an opportunity to enjoy these last moments of Winter, taking the advice from our Mother to take it slow, rest, recoup, marinate and allow these quiet days to seep into my subconscious and inspire me to seek what I wish to see blossom when the flowers start to show their pretty little smiling faces. . . How many of you out there train with historical weapons? . . There’s nothing like snow falling through the night and waking up to the ferns and conifers dusted with white. Upon first light, I threw on my garb and went straight outside to play with my bow! . . I have always been drawn to archery and sword fighting. I haven’t had much time for either the last few months, but now that I finally got these beautiful custom made historical arrows from @hononegaharchery, I am so excited to be shooting again! {More detail photos to come}. . . I find archery so therapeutic and strengthening in many ways. Grounding and confidence boosting as well. And especially in garb. I can’t wait to build the rest of my kit! . . My new Hooded Capelet proved to be a prefect accessory while shooting. The opening in the front allows for ample arm mobility and the oversized hood blocked my eyes from the snow flurries and peeking sun. Introducing the Hooded Capelet! . . *Swipe* I conjured up this hooded capelet a few weeks ago and have been wearing it ever since, so I felt it was time to finally bring it into the world! This hooded capelet is a modified variation on my Skjoldehamn hoods and hooded shawls, the length falls somewhere between the two. It features an open front with edges that come to a sharp point. The back also extends to a sharp point in the center back. More photos and details in the listing on my website~ link in bio. I am also wearing my Forest Green linen serk in these photos. . . The capelet displayed above is in the Coal Black wool. It features a hand stitched leather & bone toggle closure in the center front under where the hood meets. The actual hood part is big and roomy just like my regular hoods. This capelet can be made in all my 14 colors of linen and my 4 colors of wool. I am offering the option of adding one of my 17 trims to the entire bottom border as well, if one of the trims speaks to you. . . My desire with Midgaarb is to create pieces that can be incorporated historically into your reenactment kits but also into every day clothing. Historically accurate as much as possible and historically and earth inspired. I have been wearing this capelet over many of my vintage thrifted dresses as well my own linen and wool garb.
