Transphobia? Bitch stop.

Okay, so like my sister is my best friend. Honestly, wouldn’t be here without her help and support and at the start of my transition she was a bit confused with me but now all she does is defend and correct people. Anyone is like, “Birthname?” she likes, “Luke!” and constantly going, “He* Him* Lucas* Hes a boy!” To anyone who tries to be transphobic towards me, or anyone who forgets! 

I’ve been out for two and a half years now, almost three and I’ve told all my family and friends. There are step family members who keep birthnaming me and they said to her today, “Well I can call HER by HER BIRTHNAME!” and my sister went off like. “No. You cant. He didn’t legally change his name for no reason.” And every single time they’d say my birthname or misgender me she would make it very clear that I’m a boy now and what my name and pronouns are. 

She’s such a lovely person.

there was a trans woman that my supervisor worked with right before i worked here and despite his claims that he has no problems with trans people, whenever shes been brought up, he seemingly makes a point of misgendering her before "correcting" himself and correctly gendering her for the rest of the conversation. he'll go "he---she..." or "they--i mean she..." and he does it once at the beginning and then says 'she' without any problem. like he's clearly trying to let it be known that he doesnt see her as a woman and is just going along with it for the sake of decency or whatever. why is it so so so hard for cis people to just be normal about trans people.

Is it bad if I don't understand other-kin? It's not that I hate them or send them hate or anything, I'm just confused by them. I kind of feel like they invalidate trans and non-binary people to the rest of the world, but forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn. I'm not sure where their place is in intersectional feminism and as someone who is pretty sure she's cis I try really hard to be accepting and listen to everyone who's not because it's not my place to talk. Any advice?

I’m confused, why exactly do you think you need to understand otherkin? Like in what way do their beliefs affect your life like… at all? and why do you feel the need to blame a tiny and uninfluential group of people - who are disproportionately trans kids btw - for the transphobia cis people as a whole perpetuate and have perpetuated for hundreds of years?

like literally how are otherkin even relevant to your life? I don’t understand their beliefs either and somehow I manage to get by just fine without blaming them for systemic oppression I take part in as a privileged person?

tl;dr - Otherkin aren’t hurting anyone by existing. You literally do not need to have a stance on their personal beliefs. And stop blaming anyone other than cis people for transphobia. It’s unfeminist to scapegoat other people for oppression you yourself perpetuate just because you think they’re weird.

The fact that you care more about your own slight discomfort that "weh weh but singular they is impersonal" than the fact that your shitty neopronouns contribute to the mass misrepresentation of nonbinary people, which is hurtful, really says a lot about you.

You’re the one stereotyping and demonizing non-binary people if you equate minimizing social discomfort to “just doing it to contribute to LGBT stereotypes”.

Singular they isn't impersonal to everyone, and if someone desires that "they" pronouns be used for them, that is to be respected.
