The dumbest take from the “Nora can’t be trans crowd” is absolutely “I don’t have an issue with her being trans, but if they were going to reveal it, they would have done so when we got her backstory in V4.”

It’s an attempt to claim that there issue isn’t with Nora being trans, but with adding more backstory when we’ve already gotten hers.

Which falls apart when you remember that Samantha Ireland has said we are getting Nora backstory this volume. If they really had an issue with her getting more backstory, why aren’t they more upset about the CERTAINTY that Nora is getting more backstory than the mere POSSIBILITY that backstory includes her being trans? All of them were pretty quiet about Nora getting more backstory right up until the possibility of her being trans started being talked about.

And we don’t even need to take into account what Nora’ VA has said. The “Nora backstory” in V4 was actually Ren’s backstory. Nora was there but she wasn’t the focus. This backstory was the start of Ren’s story. We saw his home and his family, and we saw him unlock his semblance.

There was at least very important about Nora in that backstory, however. When Nora was being harassed by other children, they made a comment about her clothes being weird. Her clothes don’t fit in with everyone else, and it’s very likely she isn’t from Kuroyuri, or possibly even from Mistral for that matter.

This begs a few questions. Where is she from? How did she end here and how did she end up on her own? And, how long has she been alone?

We very much need more Nora backstory to answer these questions. And if we are getting backstory, we will very likely find out more than just the answers to questions raised in Ren’s backstory.

But even if we ignore all that, you know that every single person who claims their issue is that we don’t need more Nora backstory will have no issue if we get that backstory and Nora isn’t confirmed as trans. Some of them might even like it.

Their issue is 100% about Nora being trans. Everything else is an attempt at plausible deniability.
