Day Fifteen: Transient Life
This is an unerring truth in the world. Many times, we do not feel like we are ageing and changing. It happens so gradually that it escapes our notice. But we cannot escape it, or control it. Growing, learning, evolving; all move forward along their own path, at their own pace. We cannot escape this truth: Man is not ageless.
None of us know when it will be our time to die. We may have another 100 years on the earth, or 1 second. Every breath could be our last. We can not know who of us will survive till tomorrow, the day after, or the year after.
This seems like very morbid and depressing thinking, for followers of the Tao, but it has its purpose: to make us see that each moment is precious. We must live in each moment as it comes, never worrying for the future or fretting over the past. In order to reach true enlightenment we must accept our own mortality. Only then can we begin to live in the present. Take joy in every day, every breath; for we only have so many.
What are you doing in this moment?
