I moved out today. I'm going to a youth camp for the weekend and then moving into my new lodgings on Sunday. But I'm officially out of my parents home? Which is kind of surreal. Been waiting for years and now it's happened? And it's weird. My life is packed into my car. I'm going to live in a place I've never seen with people I've never met and I'm going to get a job like a real adult to pay for my rent? And like. Go to university and stuff? Anywho. It's a lot of new things. I'm a bit scared of it all but it'll be fine I'm sure. Eventually.

I DID IT! I took my driving test after putting it off for years from driving anxiety, and I passed!
I’m still anxious, but today I got to drive by myself for the first time and it was ok. It’s progress, and I never though I’d even be able to get here.
To clarify, it’s not driving anxiety as in I’m afraid to crash. I’ve never really seen this talked about but I’m being assessed for ADHD/ASD and driving was almost impossibly overstimulating at first. I’m on better meds now and I’ve been working with a driving school for people with disabilities (which is a huge privilege). Slowly I’ve been able to develop a framework of rules that allows me to automate driving a bit; otherwise I have to individually control all of my actions and it’s almost impossible. Anybody else who’s neurodivergent have a hard time learning to drive?
“The enslaved were not bricks in your road, and their lives were not chapters in your redemptive history. They were people turned to fuel for the American machine. Enslavement was not destined to end, and it is wrong to claim our present circumstance—no matter how improved—as the redemption for the lives of people who never asked for the posthumous, untouchable glory of dying for their children. Our triumphs can never compensate for this.”
