Bastardy is a hot topic in the fandom, so i figured i’d break it down. Aenys I was rumored to be a bastard son of Rhaenys and a bard by some since Aegon I seemed to have trouble making children with both of his sister wives for years. Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey were also rumored to be bastards due to their obvious similarities to a certain man nearby with these features. However, Laenor claimed them as his own, cared for them and helped raise them. Daeron II was rumored to be a bastard fathered by Naerys and Aemon the DragonKnight. Daemon’s supporters also used this to further discredit him and convince Daemon to fight for the throne.
Daemon Blackfyre wasn’t the eldest in the line of succession so it wouldn’t have mattered if Daeron II was a so called bastard. Both Aemon and Aegon IV had Valyrian features so you really wouldn’t have been able to tell if he hypothetically was. At the end of the day, bastardy isn’t the problem. It’s just another excuse people use to discredit a woman. It all comes down to sexism and the patriarchal system in the world they live. But Rhaenyra, babes, it would’ve helped if you had chosen a man who shared the same looks.
