Years pass by, time has flown
But a Cambremon still sits on the throne
Some sneaky foreshadowing
One trope I love, and which kept popping up during the gen2 storyline, is the "deal with the devil".
Time and time again, characters try to make deals with the powerful. But the power imbalance makes a fair exchange impossible: the characters are always cheated.
Cambremon- recap (pt.11)
See here for: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3/ Part 4/ Part 5/ Part 6/Part 7/Part 8/Part 9/ Part 10
Kadja tricked Len into drinking the poisoned wine, and escaped with Arvin and Mirstemiv.
Ren and Inna entered the Dantuzine crypt through a magical passage.
The Dantuzine ghost was none other than the spirit of Surnon Dantuzine, Andra's dead husband. Through dark magic, the spirit possessed the bodies of those sacrificed to it.
During the battle against the spirit, Ren was immediately incapacitated.
But the Cambremons managed to gain the upper hand when Inna unleashed a powerful lightening strike against the spirit.
The spirit left the body of the last person sacrificed, a Serf woman.
However, Ren killed her right away, afraid of letting the dark magic spread.
The Cambremons burned everything in the crypt, and Ren thanked Inna for saving his life.
While fleeing, Kadja was trapped, the baby's cries attracting too much attention. She told Arvin to flee through a small window, and to tell her the opposite direction of the one he was going to take, in a plan to circumvent the Cambremon's truth-telling power if interrogated.
Ren and Inna, back from the crypt, discovered that Len had been poisoned by Kadja, who was on the run with the Dantuzine children.
While in a transe-like state, Len saw that Bone Spirit had never left and tried to warn the Cambremons.
Ren and Inna found Kadja and burst inside the locked room.
Cornered, Kadja refused to tell the Cambremons where Arvin had gone.
After suffering a magical blast from Ren, Kadja pretended to cave in and disclosed the fake destination Arvin had told her earlier. As Ren gloated, Kadja told him that he was poison, in a callback to her outburst after Janviya was murdered.
Ren tasked two Blades with guarding Kadja's rooms, ordering them to let no one in nor out until his return.
Kadja found a message mirror in the rooms where she was locked up, and sent a desperate plea to Achemi Baranim.
Kadja started going into labour, but the Blades, following Ren's orders, didn't open the door or let in any help.
Kadja gave birth on her own to a baby boy, Eldar.
Bone Spirit appeared and claimed the child. The spirit considered this child was owed to them after Ren had tried to 'trick' them by sacrificing a Serf instead of someone with Cambremon blood, and a pregnant Kadja had walked into the sacrificial grounds.
Angered by her refusal to hand over the child, Bone Spirit told Kadja the truth: that they had made Ren obsessed with her after cheating on a deal made with Galina, Ren's first wife.
Kadja proposed a bargain to Bone Spirit: she would sacrifice herself to save her baby.
Bone Spirit killed Kadja but didn't let her soul escape, keeping her prisoner in the spirit realm.
Their revenge completed, Bone Spirit vowed to continue making humans suffer, until the day when spirits would be powerful enough to wipe them out.
Andra: What was that display?
Andra: Ren's watching you to see if you turn out like your father. Don't give him reason to think you're going to undermine him.
Neleda: *quickly* I wouldn't...
Andra: You publicly protested one of his decisions. You saw how awkward things got with Inna. Wisen up. From now on, I better see nothing but obedience from you.
Ren: *to Inna* Let's get you to the Intendancy, you'll need supplies. And a visit to the Blades might be in order.
Andra: All of you go ahead, I'll handle Sniffles over here.
Andra: *elbows her* What's the matter with you?! Inna came all this way, show a little respect.
Inna: Neleda seems quite distraught... Instead of separating the sisters, maybe both could-?
Ren: We've been over this. No.
Inna: *leans towards Rezar* How do you feel about coming with me to the Dantuzine hub? The way is dangerous.
Rezar: *defiantly* I'm not afraid of the Wastelands. *with a little less bravado* And I'm not afraid of the Dantuzine ghost either.
Inna: It's long gone, darling.
