it's honestly so tiring with the familial titles for Solar because the writers don't keep a summary of characters or look back to past episodes to make sure they don't mix up Solar's stance on the titles
and I have no problems if Solar doesn't want familial titles with the Celestial Family
but like please write down core points of your characters so you're not confusing your own audience who has watched this show and specifically people who like Solar
It is so tiring, agreed. I don't mind if they decide to make Solar just be a housemate/family friend but the wishiwashi back-and-forthness is exhausting me.
Solar accepted being called a cousin. He called himself their cousin on occasion. He escalated it to being called their brother of his own volition. But now he's acting like they forced it onto him when that's not the case as far as actual, in-the-posted-episodes canon goes. Like, bro is blaming them for seeing him as family when he never denied wanting those titles until very recently, and it reflects more poorly on him and makes him seem... Honestly bitchy.
I'd at least believe it if he said, "I only agreed to spare Terra's feelings," but then I'd ask why he called himself a cousin and then a brother for so long, rather than avoiding using those titles for himself.
And if instead of blaming the family for "putting those titles on him" he would just say, "Hey guys, I don't really see you as my siblings or relatives after thinking about it carefully, can we just call me a housemate/coworker/friend?" that would be a lot less frustrating because that's him firmly establishing boundaries and the explanation as to why he suddenly changed his mind.
Solar doesn't have to be family, at this rate I'm fine with him not being family in canon so everyone can chill the fuck out in the show and the fandom. I'm just frustrated with the insistence on denying the past and pretending it happened differently than it actually did to suit the now rather than putting a foot down and just coming up with a decent mini-subplot to work this out.
Heya there SaMs fandom, I’m making this blog as the original SaMs venting blog has decided to support a known pedophile and isn’t a safe space to vent anymore, especially for kids.
Yes, gore anon vents are allowed, thought do be warned I might not pick up on any malicious vents if they are fandom based ones, so please keep that in mind incase I reply to an ask without knowing it was actually bad.
I miss the Old Moon. The very old Moon from early SAMS- and shut your mouth before you start with your dumb little accusations of me condoning or excusing his abuse because I sure haven't and I never fucking will! <3
What I mean is that I miss the character who had so much potential and so much depth and so much nuance apart from his abuse towards Sun. He wasn't wholly black or white, he was cast in varying degrees of gray.
But back then, something that really drew me into his character was how sincere and empathetic he could be with Sun. In the episodes where Sun confessed to having a crush on Roxanne, when Sun left Golden's mansion and Moon followed him to the daycare so they could talk, even in the midst of fighting the Wither Storm and during the aftermath, not to mention the first New Years episode!
Moon genuinely cared about Sun's feelings and allowed him to express them safely without telling him he was "too sensitive" or prioritizing his own feelings and concerns while disregarding Sun's. He listened to Sun vent with honest patience and would respond with heartfelt comfort, advice and understanding. Hell, he would do his best to uplift Sun, too!
He wasn't perfect, but that kind of was very clearly the point? Of both his and Sun's stories. That they were imperfect characters fighting their inner demons while trying to combat the physical manifestation of Moon's worst demons (aka Eclipse/his homicide code.)
He was trying to change. And that effort meant something to the one person who was affected the most, Sun himself.
When he and Moon talked about Moon leaving the homicide code behind and risking Sun's person, openly admitted he was wrong to do so, as well as selfish and cowardly, Sun said, and I quote,
"Brother, I understand all these things that went through your head. Like you said so yourself, we're both part of the same body- or mind, or- whatever, at some point. I appreciate it, actually, a bit. It means you really tried to be something better! And you still are!"
And then a few minutes later, he says, "Brother, I still love you. I still care about you!" If you don't believe me, go watch "Sun and Moon are TWINS?! in VRChat." There! I linked it for you and everything!
A huge part of why early SAMS/old Moon fans actually felt compelled to root for him was because he had redeeming qualities to him that were compelling! It was never about pretending his abuse against Sun was somehow okay, it was about hoping he'd grow better than that. But honestly, my hopes have been dashed- I stopped actively/consistently watching SAMS lore months ago and all I've heard is that he's falling back into old habits and stooping to terrible pranks on Sun, just like Nexus.
-Turns to Moon- I fought for your honor in light of your passing and this is how you repay me?
Honestly, all I can do at this point is keep the Moon I used to root for in my memories. You don't have to like him or say he was the bestest brother ever, that's literally not even the point of this post, but you sure as hell can't take him from me.
To be honest, I already did something similar and ranked some of them, but sure, I'll rate the characters as best I can. I don't actively watch the lore anymore and don't know much about the new characters, like the Shamrocks.
And unlike when I ranked them, for simplicity's sake I'll just refer to their present iterations.
Killcode - 100/10 - When he was a villain he was interesting but never read as much of a threat, his main point of interest came from him being a father to BM and Eclipse. But the episodes where he appeared after his redemption were -chef's kiss- amazing. Loved how sweet he was talking with Nexus, loved how snarky and sassy he was with Sun, and DAMN, I loved watching him verbally murder Bloodmoon before they, ah... Physically murdered him in turn. :'D
Shamrock Chica - 10/10 - Love the birb!! She's so cute and sweet, I mostly know her from the game episodes but she was lovely to Charlie, which was much appreciated!
Shamrock Roxy - 10/10 - Good pupper! They seem incredibly shy from what I've gathered but that's just relatable, babeeeey. I love their dynamic with Chica. ^w^
Novafrost - 7/10 - I don't watch lore much, like I said, but they seem alright. Love their relationship, happy for them, not much else to say.
Cosmos - 7/10 - I still feel like he got massively screwed over by the narrative and it's drained a lot of what made him a great character in the past.
Solar - 7/10 - I liked him so much more in the past, but he can still be an incredibly interesting character to watch and I loved watching him go nuts and take down the Creator. But he's also suffering from the same problem as the rest of his family in that being an asshole has to be his man personality trait.
Jack - 6/10 - I don't hate Jack but he's not one of my favorites to watch, I think he would have been better as a little brother to Solar rather than a son. It could have been a nice parallel between Solar and Eclipse and shown the differences between them. I also have mixed feelings about suddenly switching him to be a more child-like AI.
Dazzle - 6/10 - She's adorable. Sweet kid! There's really not much more to her than that, as far as I know.
Molten - 5/10 - I remember around October times he wasn't there much but a sweetheart. Last time I watched an ep with him in it, he was kind of cold and sassy? I also know Moon said Molten's picking that up from him, which... Doesn't bode well, imo.
Bloodmoon - 3/10 - They had a lot of potential to be redeemed, but that got thrown aside. Their unwillingness to change lead to them spiraling into their only personality being "EEEEEEVILLLLL" when, in the October takeover, they had a lot going on, especially Bleed/Reed's half of BM. I seriously saw a parallel to Cosmos with them and I was so disappointed that it was Ruin "redeemed" in the end.
Sun - 1/10 - He used to be my utmost favorite character, a total 100/10, but his recent devolvement into just another asshole, to the point that he's actually willing to insult a dead child (which he did to Charlie) like some kind of manchild killed my love for him. I need a stiff drink to cope.
Monty - 0/10 - That gator's just a straight-up asshole to everyone except their fiancee, I have no respect left for Monty after they wanted to kill Cosmos with no hesitation, THEIR LONG-TIME BEST FRIEND, but meanwhile when it came to Nexus? "I- I'm twying to be a bettew pewson for Tewwa 🥺 I don't wanna kill unwess I have to 🥺🥺🥺"
Terra - 0/10 - She's not even a character, she's just a "nice" little idol placed into the story to be adored and worshipped, given no opportunities to make mistakes and actually grow as a person. She is not held accountable for anything she does wrong.
Nexus - 0/10 - Went from a sweet, lovable pupper to bullying his brother with shitty, crude pranks nonstop due to pent up resentment and got away with it under the veil of "it's just the sibling dynamic!" then he turned into a villain who simultaneously played victim while literally threatening the lives of his family over mistakes they tried to make amends for in the past and he never had the bolts to tell them he needed more reassurance from them.
Moon - 0/10 - He used to be such a good, nuanced character. He had flaws and he had redeeming qualities. He used to have so much empathy and actual emotional intelligence. They've robbed that from him and from what I've heard, he's following in Nexus's footsteps with playing awful pranks on Sun and making threats to make his life hell. I'm so mad. I am so mad.
Darksun - 0/10 - He's so annoying. I hate the trend of "omigosh this character is so much smarter than the supposedly super intelligent protags he's so smart he's unstoppable!!" villains. I also hate how he fucked over Sun just to make his "Sun paradise." This bastard is not a girl's girl, he's just another "my shitty means justify my end" asshole.
Shamrock Freddy and Gomer - ???/10 - They're gag characters. They don't have any personality aside from being weirdos. They're just there to me.
Killer Sun - ???/10 - I've only watched like, one minute or so of him on screen and that was when V2 Nexus got sent to the forest. I don't know anything about this guy. I don't care to know anything about him, either.
Aaand... I think that's it? Well, that's all I'm willing to put towards this, at least. It may be obvious by now but there's a reason I stopped watching SAMS. 😅 I stopped liking the majority of the characters.
And yes, I'm aware the VAs are allowed to play them however they want, but I'm also allowed to not find it funny or entertaining. The influx of insult humor just isn't my thing and I miss when the show had more emotional depth to it, personally.
So are we going to acknowledge that the “Monty’s plan to bring back old moon” showed a very strong metaphor for rape on screen or are we just pretending that didn’t happen?
Cause i want to acknowledge it. I want Monty to fucking burn in hell for that actually.
Thank you Ellery for providing this term to describe what happened. Except it’s more than just that too because Monty shocked him unconscious before literally entering his head non consensually.
What are your tsams rants, hot takes and unpopular opinions?? Im kinda getting tired of the show so im asking around 👍
Honestly valid I have only been watching the gaming videos and streams but noting else for over 2 months now- but here are some of my hot takes
They forgot so much of the lore or rewrite it that most of the time the character's personalities boil down to what they are (like a Sun is nice and caring or a Moon is smart and aggressive) and not who they became over time
The constant Sun abuse has to stop and everyone saying he's ugly and forever alone like its a bad thing
Surprise guests stars to stay relevant to the younger part of the audience but not listening to what the actual audience wants to see like they did in streams
So so much fan service
And speaking of ace Moon's new characterization
Monty. There's alot i can say about Monty.
Shipping you don't have to be in a relationship to be happy
Force parenthood
Killing off crowd favorites like Molten, Atlas and more
Solar he has changed into a different person from when we first met him and when he was brought back /derogatory just like moon
Communication
Timing and pacing
Star power
Most of the villains. There's too many even they're done with them
Magic is a 50/50
The babification of characters well babying them
None of the character's have their actual good redeeming qualities anymore they are losing it and distancing themselves from who they were before
There's no more bonding episodes those were like therapy sessions for them
Titan
Roxas
The way they treat the female characters is atrocious as well
The petty passive aggressiveness from Davis and Reed is sometimes uncalled for and it mostly goes to deaf ears
