Ft. also some concept sketches for Sonny. As I'm sure you can see the diesels are based much more closely to their RWS liveries than their show liveries, especially in the lack of grey faces. I'm not quite sure I like Daisy's design yet, I don't feel like she quite conveys the porcelain feel I want for her. We'll see how that changes as I mess around with her.

Also a friend left me with the amusing comment that Boco looks a bit like a frog, Bear looks like a bee, Daisy looks like a pea plant, and Marshall reminds her of an owl.

Oh also Marshall is Spencer's coach. I don't think Spencer is ever stated to have a designated coach but it seems a liiiittle odd to me that the Duke and Duchess wouldn't have some sort of coach that they normally travel in that's actually theirs as opposed to loaned from the railway. So now Marshall exists. Spencer occasionally calls her Marshmallow or Mally to tease her, and she can and will retaliate with nicknames such as Penny.

Traintober Day 14: Siding

Oliver’s great escape.

Oliver is very close with his crew. They put a lot on the line to save their dear engine, and it was a stressful time for all involved. Sometimes Oliver would have to be hidden for weeks at a time in abandoned sidings as they planned their next move, but he was never alone. His crew would take turns staying with him, Isabel, and Toad, often reading stories to help ease the tension.

Stepney: *Whispering to Austin* I don't think there's a good reason other than Oliver needs psychiatric evalution.

Austin: What?....

Stepney: Remember TATAM? He was physically and emotionally abused by that wooden sadist that he eventually snapped and when AWOL.

Austin: *Looking back at Oliver* Lady save us....

A Little Extra Isabel

I've been a bit stuck for what to draw for the last month - life off Tumblr has been a little hectic (largely in a good way) and the fact my birthday is in two weeks have blanked my mind. But I was looking over some old posts and remembered that I was never fully happy with Isabel's design as I messed up her colouring. Plus, I drew her with Oliver, so I thought she deserved her own post.

Some little facts about Isabel:

Is married to Toad

She and Toad have a daughter together, Mirabel, but were unable to have more children.

Was assigned as the foster mother to Oliver. As this was common practice on the GWR, the fostering was successful (unlike the botched fostering of Thomas to Edward), and the two have a happy and healthy relationship.

Acts as a grandmotherly figure to Oliver's children with Douglas and as a great-aunt to Duck and Donald's children.

Isabel is the unofficial 'leader' of the Little Western coaches in the absence of an engine. When Duck's slip coaches arrived on the island, they automatically accepted her leadership without question.

Isabel, along with her husband, Toad, holds true to the traditional values of the Great Western branch line, although she will be the first to admit that these values are no longer held by her old railway. This has helped her cultivate a good relationship with Duck.

Outside of her branch line, Isabel has earned a lot of respect with her mild way of speaking and no-nonsense attitude and has become friends with Annie, Clarabel, and especially Henrietta.

To any other engine, Oliver was like anyone else on his line. Running up and down the branch with his autocoach in tow.

But in the yard, under the moon's glow, they were plotting. Deciding the whens and wheres of their great escape. When they would leave, and how they were to reach the North Western Region.

Oliver wished more than anything - save for his and Isabel’s escape, of course - that he could tell at least one of his siblings. Have someone to say goodbye to. But he couldn’t. Either he risked being ratted out, or the engine he told would want to come. And he’d want to bring them along. But one western tank engine and autocoach running to Sodor was risky enough. Anymore, and they’d draw too much attention.
