Elizabeth of York, born Princess Elizabeth of England. Daughter of Edward IV, King of England and Elizabeth Woodville, Queen of England. Sister of Edward V, King of England and Richard, Duke of York commonly known as the Princes in the Tower. Niece of Richard III, King of England. On the assumed deaths of her brothers she was accepted as the Yorkist heiress. Wife of Henry VII, King of England - the Lancastrian heir, uniting the houses - making her Queen Consort of England and the first Tudor consort. Mother to Arthur, Prince of Wales, Margaret, Queen of Scotland, Henry VIII, King of England and Mary, Queen of France.

TUDOR WEEK 2025

We are hosting Tudor Week 2025. This event will take place from Monday, October 20th, to Sunday, October 26th.

The week will go as follows:

Day 1 - Monday, 20th of October: Favourite "Forgotten" Tudor (Owen Tudor, Catherine De Valois, Edmund Tudor, Catherine Woodville, Arthur Prince of Wales, Henry Fitzroy, Margaret Douglas, etc.). Day 2 - Tuesday, 21st of October: Most interesting Tudor relationship (Familial or Romantic). Day 3 - Wednesday, 22nd of October: A Tudor event or topic related to the family or family members that you want to see more of in popular media and/or more research on. Day 4 - Thursday, 23rd of October: Favourite Tudor Spouse. Day 5 - Friday, 24th of October: Most watched Tudor movie, TV show or Documentary (bring out those guilty pleasures). Day 6 - Saturday 25th of October: Best Tudor firsts or lasts in history (first acknowledged Queen Regnant, last Queen Consort crowned independently, etc). Day 7 - Sunday, 26th of October: Favourite Tudor influence (Henry V, Edward IV, Margaret of Austria etc.) and/or Favourite Tudor international friendship.

This can cover all events and media that a Tudor family member is present, so from Owen Tudor to Elizabeth Tudor, and may include spouses and acknowledged children of direct members of the Tudor family (if unsure who we cover please check our Family page). We have attempted to make it as broad as possible and no pressure if you are late with some of the days, we will still reblog.

Tudor Week 2025 Day 1 | Favourite 'Forgotten' Tudor — Eleanor Clifford, Countess of Cumberland.

Born the youngest of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, and Mary Tudor, Queen of France's (pictured right) daughters in c.1519, the exact date of her birth is unknown. Eleanor was contracted to marry Henry Clifford, 2nd Earl of Cumberland in 1533, however due to her mother's passing in June of that same year, the marriage was delayed. Ultimately, Eleanor married Clifford in June of 1535, reportedly with her uncle, the King, present. Not much is known about Eleanor's life after 1536 when she was one of Catherine of Aragon's chief mourners. In fact, she has only left one letter to the known record, which is as follows;

"Dear heart, After my most hearty commendations, this shall be to certify you that since your departure from me I have been very sick and at this present my water is very red, whereby I suppose I have the jaundice and the ague both, for I have none abide [no appetite for] meat and I have such pains in my side and towards my back as I had at Brougham, where it began with me first. Wherefore I desire you to help me to a physician and that this bearer my bring him with him, for now in the beginning I trust I may have good remedy, and the longer it is delayed, the worse it will be. Also my sister Powys [Anne Brandon] is come to me and very desirous to see you, which I trust shall be the sooner at this time, and thus Jesus send us both health. At my lodge at Carlton, the 14th of February. And, dear heart, I pray you send for Dr Stephens, for he knoweth best my complexion for such causes. By your assured loving wife, Eleanor Cumberland"

Eleanor would have three children with her husband, however, only her first born would survive infancy, a daughter, Lady Margaret Clifford who would go on to marry Henry Stanley, 4th Earl of Derby.

Eleanor would depart the mortal plane on the 27th September, 1547, aged between 27 - 28.

Clifford would remarry and have a further 3 children, including 2 more Earls of Cumberland.

And you will know the desire I have always had to further your contentment and ease in whatever further opportunities that may arise in which I can please and content Your Highness, because I shall take no less care of your affairs, being those of sister whom I love so much, than I take of my own.

Philip to Elizabeth, 27 December 1558

She confessed freely that she knew it [Castilian] and that she learned it for a very good reason she hoped never to forget, that is to be understood by His Majesty, for when she was his prisoner, she talked to him like a parrot and how she was commanded to. She wished with affectionate regret and force that he came to the Netherlands, to have the opportunity to wait for him and receive him in her ports, and tell him what she truly has in her heart with more freedom than before, and to declare her commitment to him, and the full love she bears him...

"Philip’s death, although expected, nevertheless came as a blow to Elizabeth. He had been involved in her life for more than forty years. When she was young, he had been her friend. He had been her protective brother-in-law. He later had been her suitor. He had been one of her correspondents. As a fellow prince, he had been her colleague. When he contended with her, she had found a sort of enjoyment in being his adversary. (..) For good or for ill, in the dozen years or so before his death he had stood as a nearly constant presence in her mind. He had presented a continuing challenge that drew from her the best that her wits could supply. She would miss him, in an odd way."

When can we see a documentary about how Henry Richmond united with the support of Edward IV, got engaged to Elizabeth, became friends with Edward Woodville, and defeated Richard III with the help of William Stanley。A group of exiled Yorkists placed their hopes on an unknown Welsh man... Many of them had a lifelong friendship with Henry.I also want to see Edward Woodville on the screen... give me scenes of rebellion during the reign of Henry VII, except for Warbeck. I want to see how the former Yorkist army maintained rule for Henry and how Queen Elizabeth was entrusted to Arthur during a crisis, and how she led the Duke of York on a parade

Catherine of Valois, Princess of France. Later Queen of England then Dowager Queen of England and mother to Henry VI, King of England. Her second marriage was to Owen Tudor. She was also mother to Edmund, Earl of Richmond and Jasper, Duke of Bedford and Earl of of Pembroke. Through Edmund she was the grandmother of Henry VII, King of England the first Tudor King.
