#TuesdayThrowdown! The crew over a @whiskey_library_dc were ballers. They found out I hadn't tried @Smoothambler #AmericanWhiskey and rushed a sample over to me. Thanks so much in advance. For the veterans, you guys know I love #SmoothAmbler. I haven't had to pour out a bottle yet. They don't pay me, nor do they send my free product (not that I would turn it down) , its just good #whiskey! Let's get on with it! The new #AmericanWhiskey is a blend of new American oak and some rejuvenated barrels. It's bourbon for all intents and purposes, but part of it wasn't aged in "virgin" oak. Honestly it doesn't matter for a whiskey like this. When you regroove and rechar a barrel you release more of the woods sugars into the spirit to impart a different palate of flavors. So is it any good? I've heard this is a blend of young and old, which is why there is no age stament, but I'm not a stickler for numbers anyway. It's bottled at 99 proof for your enjoyment, and I think you just might. On to the nose. On first pour the nose was a little tight. It wasn't giving me much. Mostly just a hint of caramel and light ripe green apples and pears. Let this one stretch is legs a bit, and even add a drop or two of water, and get ready. This is a confectionary sweet shop. This whiskey takes you back to the state fair, and is dominated up from with candied apples, with cotton candy lingering in the background. Grab that first sip, and those baked cinnamon apples nearly take your breath away. Hang on for the ride, and the spice from the wood gives way to caramel sauce, and semisweet chocolate. It's malty through the finish and lingers for quite some time. This is a very complex pour. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's going to be loved by many. Great Job, #SmoothAmbler this is a great offering, I hope we get to see a #BarrelProof offering on this one at some point. Rating: 89/100 #BuyIt
