A second chance? Or a cry for help?
(A little context: months ago I posted this screenshot on my Twitter with the same message, but this time I want to express my idea.)
You can easily accuse me of being a fangirl, but let's be realistic: whoever made the edit didn't watch the movie, didn't play both games, and it's obvious they didn't even understand the plots.
Why?
Doomguy should be the funny one and Duke Nukem of forever the depressive one (for being, literally, the worst Duke).
BUT...
Based on this edit, I came up with a proposal/fanfic for a crossover.
Generally, I hate multiverses, but...
It would be more or less the same plot, but without the TVA. Instead of Doomguy looking for a Duke to save his universe, imagine this: Doomguy won, and at the same time, lost everything. Instead of the ending of Eternal, the script gives him an extra chance to find peace. It starts like this:
As he loses consciousness, a signal emerges from the darkness of the void. A rift in reality opens: another portal, but a very different one. The unconscious space marine falls through the interdimensional portal. During his fall, he thinks his time has finally come. He feels nothing, only pure tranquility; that peace he longed for so much, he believes has finally been granted. Unknowingly, he transforms into a version of himself ten years older: thinner, with wrinkles and gray hair at his temples. He is stripped of almost all his armor, his weapons, and the great divine power that made him unstoppable.
But he keeps four things, as a gift from the universe:
1. His memories.
2. A tiny shred of Davoth's divine power (it's not like before, but it's enough for him to survive better).
3. The preserved foot of his rabbit, Daisy.
4. The restored photo of him and his family, so he never forgets what he once was.
In the marine's mind, everything was peace, unaware that he held those physical objects in his hands. Suddenly, he feels a very cold temperature accompanied by a constant gust of wind. He opens his eyes and is surprised to realize he's falling into the void: he seems to be falling from Earth's sky at night. His mind fully awakens and he sees he no longer has his armor or his weapons; he is naked, falling with two small objects in his hands.
He looks at the horizon and sees a city, but one very different from those he remembers: they are not ruins, nor his original futuristic city, nor Argent D'Nur, not even Hell or Heaven. It is a human city, but for someone from the 2XXXs, it is from an era he would consider ancient. A logical question comes to his mind: "Did I travel through time?"
While thinking, he didn't realize he was descending too fast and there was nothing to cushion his fall. When he did, it was already too late. Luckily, he fell into the middle of the sea and, now fully conscious, swam to the surface.
On the surface, he spent about two hours swimming, clutching his only valuable possessions. He stopped upon hearing a sound: it was like a ship's horn. He looked around until he found one very close to him. It was a fishing boat. He shouted at the top of his lungs, the crew noticed and rescued him. They gave him some clothes and medical attention. They asked him who he was, where he came from, and why he was there.
The marine didn't know what to say, because upon seeing the crew, he thought they wouldn't believe his story. The crew, seeing the mysterious naked man say nothing, thought maybe he was someone who crossed the mob and they tried to silence him, and by some miracle he survived.
The fishing boat took him to the dock and, out of pity, the crew gave him some extra clothes, money, and pointed him towards a homeless shelter.
Doomguy, on the dock, looks out at the sea at sunrise. He realizes he is on Earth, but not his Earth nor his time. There are no demons, no angels, no Night Sentinels, no monsters, no zombies... none of what he knew. He is alone, alive, and with nothing. True absolute peace. He lets out a small laugh and takes it as a second chance, a reset: starting from zero, a new life of peace until the end of his days.
He started as a homeless vagabond, and over time he learned, discovered, and adapted to the new lifestyle. He got a simple technician job, thanks to his knowledge of technology from his era, and also his own apartment. Doomguy was finally happy after so much time suffering...
Until something very unexpected arrived. And not just for him, it was something that made the people of that reality say: "Oh no, not again." It wasn't the demons: it was an alien attack.
Doomguy felt that fear again, which he hadn't experienced in a long time, and something more: a different sensation as the fear turned into anger. That's when that very weak spark of Davoth's energy ignited.
Doomguy didn't think twice and went straight to the war zone, with nothing, while the city was being evacuated. He was once again determined not to lose that chance for peace that had cost him so much. But it was harder work than he was used to when he had a portion of Davoth's power; now he had very little stamina and strength, though still considerable. But he didn't care; he's too stubborn. He wanted to end it all at once. He wanted his peace back.
On his journey through the ruins of the attacked city, he encountered him: that blond man with a narcissistic tone he always saw on TV. Doomguy had come to think that guy was just a character or an actor. He saw how the blond guy fought against a mutant pig much larger than him and a floating alien that reminded him a lot of the Cacodemons.
Doomguy saw the floating alien fire an energy ball at the blond man, sending him flying and crashing back-first against a wall, knocked out upon hitting the ground.
Doomguy couldn't tolerate this and joined the battle to defend the blond man. He grabbed one of the alien weapons lying on the ground and, with all his courage, fought the mutant and the alien. He managed to kill the mutant and, when he was ready to face the floating alien, it turned abruptly in a direction and flew off, followed by another one, as if a hive mind had ordered their retreat.
Doomguy didn't want to stop the fight; he wanted to destroy them all, but he couldn't, as the blond man, with what little strength he had left, stopped him and said: "Hold on, you idiot. You alone can't take on the hive." Doomguy reluctantly agreed because, for the most part, he was right.
He watched as the blond man tried to stand up and felt the need to help him. He sat him down in a corner and stayed with him. The blond man took out a communication device and called headquarters to pick him up and to take the civilian (Doomguy) to the safe evacuation zone. When the rescue team arrived, they took them both. Doomguy went without a fight.
After a few hours, now in the safe zone, Doomguy received a call from an EDF officer who kindly asked him to come along. Doomguy agreed. He and the officer arrived at a medical tent where they were received by the blond man from before. Unexpectedly, the blond man, with a tone of suppressed pride, thanked him.
Ok, now that you know my idea, I leave it to your discretion to imagine any scenario with this context.
