thanks to danie’s wonderful post of haru’s room card

we now know that haru’s arm was lost and resulted in a sort of contracture scar!!

contracture scars can come from a loss of large amounts of tissue (see: HIS WHOLE ARM), often in the forms of severe burns or infected wounds

this reveals more about how haru lost his arm. it wasn’t a surgical amputation, because those are normally sewn together much more neatly. considering the flexibility required by the shoulder joint (trust me. 3 years of PT) such a surgical amputation would have likely resulted in skin grafting, which clearly did not happen here.

this suggests that haru didn’t receive proper medical care for his arm after it sustained significant injury, leading to the wound to (maybe become infected and) heal in such a way.

It also shows the extent to which he’s lost his arm. contracture scars can severely limit mobility, and for such a flexible joint like the shoulder, an impairment in mobility would be awfully clear. while a loss of some mobility or utility is seen in the story, it seems the arm also takes over the role of the rotator cuff, suggesting a forequarter amputation that would have also damaged parts of his shoulder as well.

or maybe theres no actual plot-relevant lore behind it and the scar was drawn that way for aesthetic purposes only idk. this is just my theories and also disclaimer i’m not a medical professional, so don’t take everything i say to be fact.
