⋆·˚ ༘ * EMMETT CULLEN HEADCANONS 𐚁̸.ᐟ
emmett didn’t want to leave you for the weekend.
he was invited on a longer-than-usual hunting trip with jasper and edward, but something in his chest tugged at him. an uneasiness he couldn’t explain.
“you sure you’ll be okay without me, baby?” he teased, hands cupping your cheeks, thumbs stroking your jaw.
you laughed, tugging him down for a kiss and assuring him you’d be fine.
he made you promise to text him every few hours, even though cell service up in the mountains would be awful.
“just send me anything. even if it’s just a heart emoji. i’ll feel better.”
emmett promised to be back by sunday night, smirking and kissing your forehead like always. “be good, baby. try not to miss me too much.”
the first missed message doesn’t bother him. maybe you were just busy. the second starts to itch at him.
by the time the third message time comes and goes, nothing, he’s stopped pretending.
he calls your phone. once. twice. ten times. no answer.
when alice calls with a shaky voice saying “you need to come back. now.” he doesn’t ask questions. he’s running before she hangs up.
emmett bursts through the front door of the cullen house, golden eyes wild, chest heaving even though he doesn’t need breath.
“where is she?” he demands. his voice came out low, dangerous. “tell me where she is.”
rosalie and alice try to calm him down. jasper tries to manage his emotions, but even jasper flinches when emmett growls.
when no one answered immediately, emmett lost it. “where. is. my. mate?”
his golden eyes flicked from one face to another, already glowing with that unholy glint of rage. his fists clenched tight enough to crack stone.
carlisle explains that there was a string of disappearances in town. you were last seen leaving the coffee shop. the door to your car was left open. your phone was found shattered in the street.
“they think it was random,” edward says quietly. “someone saw a van. no plate. no scent we can track yet.”
he punches through a wall. then another. then drops to his knees, fists curled into the floorboards like he might rip the house in half.
“i knew something was wrong,” he grits out. “i knew i shouldn’t have left her.”
his family watches helplessly as he spirals. pacing, snarling, a storm of guilt and fury.
“she’s human,” he says. “she’s fragile. and i wasn’t there.”
you’re his girl. his mate. his heart. the idea of someone laying hands on you, hurting you, is driving him insane.
“they have no idea what kind of monster they just messed with.”
emmett’s not calm. he can’t be. he’s feral. he tracks your scent like it’s his only lifeline, like the world doesn’t exist beyond the burning need to get you back.
if anyone tries to talk reason into him, he ignores them. “she’s out there. she needs me.”
alice tries to focus her visions, but the kidnappers keep moving. or they keep your face hidden, making it harder.
edward listens to minds across town every hour. he gets headaches. he doesn’t stop.
rosalie stays home in case you escape and return. she checks every hospital. every shelter.
emmett patrols on foot. woods, roadsides, alleys. “she has to be here. i swear i’ll tear the whole fucking state apart.”
esme, bless her heart, sets up a map in the house and marks every lead. you were family to her, and she treats this like a war effort.
emmett’s memories of you keep him sharp: your laugh, your scent, how small your hand feels in his. he whispers to himself as he runs:
“i’m coming, baby. hold on. just hold on.”
it’s been four days. emmett looks wrecked. his clothes are torn, his knuckles bloodied from wrecking trees.
then, finally, edward picks up on a panicked thought in someone’s mind. a man remembering a girl with your description.
“where?” he growls. “tell me where, edward.”
they find a rundown barn miles from town. it’s cold. it smells like blood and iron and fear.
emmett doesn’t wait for a plan. he rips the doors off the hinges and storms inside like a hurricane.
and when he finally finds you, bruised, tied up, but alive, it nearly breaks him.
the moment your eyes meet his, you break too.
you expect fury. you expect him to rip apart your captors, and he does, but the second he touches you, he collapses to his knees and just holds you.
“i’ve got you,” he whispers. over and over again. “i’ve got you. i’ve got you. i swear, i’ve got you now.”
his body shakes with restraint. he’s never been more careful in his life, touching you like glass, terrified to hurt you even though you’re sobbing into his neck and clutching him like a lifeline.
“i’ve got you now. nobody’s ever gonna touch you again. i swear on my life, baby.”
he cradles you like you’ll disappear if he blinks. kisses every bruise. brushes your hair back with trembling fingers even though his hands are still stained with blood.
back home, he doesn’t leave your side. ever. he carries you to the bathroom. to the couch. he sleeps with you in his arms, never moving.
you wake up from a nightmare and he’s already there, whispering, “shhh, you’re safe. i’m right here. i’ve got you. always.”
even though he’s always been gentle with you, after what happened, emmett becomes almost too careful.
his arms wrap around you like he’s afraid you’ll dissolve if he holds you too tight.
“tell me if it’s too much,” he whispers every time he touches you. he checks your expression constantly for signs of fear or discomfort.
when you grab his hand or lean into his chest unprompted, he exhales like he’s been holding his breath for days.
he buys you everything. new books (because he knows your last one got left behind), your favorite snacks, blankets, new clothes even though you say you’re fine.
he just needs to give you things because his fists aren’t good at comfort, but this is something he can do.
he installs a security system in your room, puts extra locks on the windows (even though you both know they’re pointless with a vampire around).
“humor me, sweetheart. i just—i need to do something.”
he feels like he failed you. even if it was just bad luck. even if you tell him it wasn’t his fault.
he’s so strong, so untouchable in most things… but when it comes to you, his heart is so fragile.
he can’t forgive himself for not being there when you needed him most.
“i should’ve known. i felt something was wrong, and i still left—god, what if i was too late?”
sometimes you catch him just watching you. not in the playful, flirtatious way he usually does, but quietly. reverently. like he still can’t believe you’re alive and in his arms.
he doesn’t sleep. he just holds you. at night, he strokes your hair and whispers to you, even when you’re asleep. sometimes he cries softly into your shoulder. you pretend not to notice so he can have that moment.
“you’re my whole world, baby. i don’t know what i’d do if i lost you…”
he never lets you walk home alone again. ever. doesn’t matter if it’s from class, the store, a friend’s house.
“i’ll pick you up,” he says, even if it’s just a few blocks away.
and if you tell him not to fuss? he’s still parked outside five minutes early, arms crossed, looking around like he’s daring the universe to try him.
“what? i’m just here for emotional support,” he grins, but you can tell he’s serious under the smile.
when you finally feel brave enough to talk about what happened, he listens without a word, eyes burning gold and hands balled into fists.
but he never interrupts you. never once tries to shift focus back to his anger. he just holds your hand and whispers,
“never again, baby. i swear on everything, i’ll never let anyone take you from me again.”
he starts training harder with jasper after it happens. not because he wants revenge, he already handled the ones who took you, but because the fear never left him.
he wants to be better. stronger. faster. so no one ever gets the chance again.
emmett never stops blaming himself. but he turns that guilt into love. into protection. into a hundred little gestures that say i’m here, you’re safe, i’ve got you.
he becomes your constant, your comfort, your quiet place, and your storm if anyone tries to hurt you again.
he doesn’t say it right away, but… it changes how he loves you.
he starts looking at you like he could cry just from the sight of you laughing.
he murmurs “i love you” into your skin like a prayer, always touching. your hand, your shoulder, your cheek. like he needs to feel you to believe you’re there.
he used to joke about being a “big, dumb teddy bear,” but now?
“you’re it for me,” he says one night. “you’re the one i’d rip the world apart for.”
and he means it. he already did.
