I Don't Wanna Know
Shanks x GN Reader. Part 1 of 2. 1988
Desc: You're the love of his life, so what can he do when he starts having suspicions?
TW: Cheating (not fr but looks bad)
CW: High angst, will NOT end happy in this chap.
Shanks was someone who thought he would never be able to give all of himself to another. He could have friends, he could have flings, he could even have a short-term lover; but they’re never close. Failed relationships that came from him closing himself off, so eventually he stopped. “It’s for the greater good.” He tells himself every time he lets a relationship fade to nothing, even if pain fills his heart. He assumed it would always be that way. He assumed that, if he ever did find someone, it would have to be after everything is done. Shanks wouldn’t rely on them, they wouldn’t be burdened, everything would be finished so he wouldn’t need any help. That’s what his plan was if he ever did manage to accept someone’s heart and let them into his.

nanami kento was 25, he faced years of relatives asking “you’re still single?” to which he would always reply “yes, i’m focused on working.” his relatives always gave a pitying smile handing him a glass of whiskey, to which he never refused.
now, he was 27 and he still always accepted his glass of whiskey at the table while everyone fought over the best pieces of turkey. but there was one small detail that changed, you. always perched by his side, arms linked together, mingling with family. the questions from relatives changed from “you’re still single?” to “when are you popping the question?” and kento would always reply before you, a calm hand on your thigh.
“when the time’s right.”
you had no other choice but to nod along, you always held hope but kento was unreadable.
this year was different, no thanksgiving dinner with his family. instead, he booked two first class tickets to thailand.
the two of you shuffle on board, this was the time. he was going to pop the question.. right?! you’re practically buzzing in your seat watching him place the luggage in the overhead bins trying to scan his body for any hints of a ring box.
he settles in his seat, a heavy arm on your shoulders.
“rest, darling, the flight is long.”
DAY ONE:
you and kento settled in the hotel’s pool. you sit between his legs, his arm wrapped around your waist keeping you warm, a bowl of mangoes in his other hand.
you sigh, he lifts a brow popping another mango slice between your lips.
“penny for your thoughts?”
“oh.. nothing kenny.. i’m just excited for all those special surprises you talked about!”
a small smile appears on his lips, kissing your temple.
“i promise honey, you dont know what’s coming to you.”
DAY TWO:
the sky was still black when kento dragged himself out of bed, he leaned against the elevator wall trying to sleep as much as he could.
and when you finally woke up with the sun peeking in through the windows sheer curtains. rolling over into his arms, he held you tighter.
“good morning dear, ive gotten us breakfast.”
“mm.. g’morning, thank you..”
with a stretch of his arms, kento slowly sat up placing a tray on your lap.
“eat up, we have a long day ahead of us.”
the two of you sit in bed, feeding each other. your mind wondered, imagining that kento could feed you every morning with his ring around your finger his child in your tummy.
after breakfast, it was time for your first activity of the day, a romantic boat ride with stories about the country.
you and kento sat in the boat, listening intently as the guide talked about the history and customs of thailand. kento kissed your temple repeatedly. hand always reaching for his pocket. but no ring.
then, wine tasting the two of you sat in a dim room nibbling on cheese and crackers while sipping on various wines.
he fidgeted, you waited. no ring.
there was still dinner, and two days left before the trip was over meaning kento had all the time in the world.
dinner was nothing less than magical, delicious dumplings, wine, dessert followed by slow dancing at the beach, yet no ring.
DAY THREE:
day three was the complete opposite of day two, sleeping in late and room service.
the two of you went to a planetarium. sitting in the dark observing the earth head on his shoulder.
“it’s hard to believe that everything had to line up perfectly for us to meet.”
“i know darling, i’m so incredibly thankful for you.”
“i love you kenny.”
“and i, you.”
after the planetarium you and kento spent the remainder of the day at the hotel, sunbathing by the pool and getting couples massages.
you waited anxiously for dinner. hoping he would pop the question by tonight but hope was fading quickly.
the two of you sit quietly on the rooftop. picking at your salad.
“is something wrong my dear?”
“oh.. nothing.. i just though you’d propose by now.”
kento stiffens. you look up at him, eyebrow raised. he clears his throat, calling for the check.
“lets talk about this at home.”
arriving at the hotel room, you sit on the edge of the bed, kento stands in front of you shifting uncomfortably.
“listen, darling, i don’t think marriage is something i want. especially not right now.”
“then how long am i supposed to wait for? you’ll be thirty soon, dont you wanna settle by then?”
the room is filled with silence.. kento shifts again, running a hand through his hair.
“i told you, i’m not ready for that yet.”
“then when will you be ready?”
“i.. i dont know, darling.”
“i cant wait forever, kento.”
“i know.. but if you cant wait now, is there even a point?”
it comes out harsher than he means it to, kento sighs as tears build up in your eyes.
“fuck you.”
kento knows there’s no point in arguing back, he doesn’t say anything else, doesn’t reach out to hold you. he just.. closes his eyes, taking a deep breath collecting himself.
“lets go to bed, honey.”
you two fall asleep with y’alls backs to each other, and in the morning kento doesn’t wake up to you in his arms. he wakes up to you gone, bags packed seemingly in the early hours of the night. a single note,
“i’m sorry ken, you were right. i cant keep waiting, maybe it’s not worth it anymore. goodbye ken. get home safe & enjoy your last day.”
DAY FOUR:
on the fourth and final day, kento spent it alone, sulking in the hotels bed. trying to find ways to contact you only to be met with the blocked message.
he cancels the dinner reservations, the art museum tour, everything.
kento knows, he knows it’s his fault for making you wait for so long. he just couldnt see you walking down the isle to him.
when he closed his eyes and imagined a wife, a family, he didn’t see you. he didn’t see anyone, really. it was a difficult truth but you would be better without him and him without you.
You Don’t Run From Things Like This”
Part 1
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Black!FEM!Reader
Warnings: Rising romantic tension, mild language, protective!Eddie, bullying themes, a soft moment, almost-kiss.
Word Count: ~1k
Summary: After your first day with Hellfire, you and Eddie get unexpectedly close — and Hawkins gets unexpectedly dangerous.
Lunch with Hellfire had gone better than you ever imagined. You laughed harder than you had in weeks, learned three new inside jokes you definitely weren’t supposed to know yet, and caught Eddie watching you with that curious, amused, soft-on-the-edges expression at least five times.
Maybe six.
Okay, eight.
But who was counting?
The rest of the school day was a blur, but when the final bell rang, you found Eddie leaning against your locker wearing the same wild hair and confident smirk — but something about his expression was more… careful this time.
“There she is,” he said, pushing off the locker. “New Girl Who Survived Day One.”
You tossed your bag over your shoulder. “Barely.”
He fell into step beside you, completely uninvited but somehow impossible to mind.
“So, what’s the verdict?” he asked. “Hawkins High: terrible, awful, or a flaming sinkhole straight to hell?”
“Definitely option three.”
Eddie snapped his fingers dramatically. “I knew you were smart.”
You rolled your eyes but smiled anyway.
“Are you walking home?” he asked as the two of you stepped outside.
“Yeah. My place isn’t far.”
“Perfect,” he said, and then quickly — almost nervously — added, “Not, like, perfect-perfect. Just… perfect because I’m heading that way too.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Eddie, you don’t have to walk me home.”
“I know,” he said lightly, brushing hair out of his face. “I want to.”
And the thing was — you wanted him to, too.
The Walk
The air was warm and the late-afternoon sun stretched long across the cracked Hawkins sidewalks. Leaves skittered in the wind as you and Eddie fell into an easy silence.
After a moment, he peeked at you.
“So… earlier,” he started, “you weren’t intimidated, right? By my… uh… crew?”
You laughed softly. “Eddie, they’re a bunch of nerdy boys with dice. They’re harmless.”
“Hey, don’t say that. They’re vicious,” Eddie said, dramatically offended. “Dustin once threw a pencil at me. Nearly took my eye out.”
You shook your head. “The horror.”
But then Eddie’s voice gentled.
“You fit right in, you know.”
Your steps slowed. You looked up at him — really looked.
“You think so?”
He shoved his hands in his pockets, rings clinking. “Yeah. I mean… you laughed with them. They liked you. And you didn’t sit there judging me the whole time, which is new.”
You frowned. “Why would anyone judge you?”
Eddie let out a breathy half-laugh. “Oh, sweetheart. I’m the freak of Hawkins. People cross hallways to avoid me.”
Sweetheart.
There it was again.
Your stomach flipped like it was trying to escape.
“Well,” you said firmly, “I think you’re cool.”
His steps faltered.
He turned and looked at you like you’d just handed him something fragile.
“Yeah?”
You shrugged. “Yeah.”
For a second, Eddie looked like he didn’t know what to do with that information. His cheeks even pinked a little under the mess of curls.
He opened his mouth to reply —
But someone cut him off.
The Interruption
A basketball bounced hard against the pavement.
You both turned.
Three Hawkins jocks stood across the street, smirking. The same one who’d shoulder-checked you earlier stepped forward.
“Well, well, well,” he sneered. “Looks like Munson found a girlfriend.”
Eddie stiffened, jaw tightening.
You saw the way his whole posture changed — not scared, but ready. Defensive. Almost protective.
You stepped forward before he could.
“Do you have something you want to say,” you asked, “or are you just wasting oxygen?”
Eddie blinked at you, surprised.
The jock scoffed. “Relax. Didn’t know the freak had a guard dog.”
Eddie took a step toward him, eyes narrowing. “Say that again.”
“No,” you said sharply, grabbing Eddie’s sleeve. He stopped immediately, eyes darting to you. “He’s not worth it.”
“But—”
“Eddie,” you repeated, softer. “Don’t.”
He swallowed, looked at the jock one last time, then forced himself to turn away.
“You’re lucky she’s here,” he muttered over his shoulder.
The jocks didn’t follow. They just laughed, loud and ugly.
Eddie didn’t say anything until the two of you were far enough away.
“You shouldn’t have to deal with that,” he said quietly.
“I’ve dealt with worse.”
Eddie glanced sideways at you. “…Yeah. I get that.”
Something unspoken passed between you — something about standing out, being looked at, not fitting into the version of Hawkins everyone expected.
And for the first time since arriving in this town, you didn’t feel so alone.
At Your Door
Your house came into view sooner than you expected.
You almost wished it hadn’t.
“Well,” you said, stopping at your driveway, “this is me.”
Eddie rocked back on his heels. “Guess I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Definitely.”
You expected him to leave then.
But he didn’t.
Instead, he hesitated — the rare, genuine kind of hesitation that meant something mattered.
“Can I… uh… ask you something?” he said, voice softer.
You nodded.
“When you laughed today… at lunch… I—” He cut himself off, running a hand through his hair. “I haven’t heard someone laugh like that at one of my stupid jokes in a long time.”
Your chest tightened.
“And when those guys started talking earlier—” He shook his head. “I’ve never had someone step in for me like that. Not like you did.”
“Eddie—”
“I guess what I’m saying is…” He breathed out nervously. “I’m really glad you’re here. In Hawkins. In Hellfire. With… us. With me.”
You stared at him, the warmth of his words sinking in deep.
“So,” you said softly, “does that mean the Dungeon Master likes me?”
Eddie’s eyes widened — then dropped to your lips for half a second, like he didn’t mean to but couldn’t help it.
“I think,” he murmured, stepping closer, “it means he more than likes you.”
Your heartbeat jumped.
He was so close.
Too close.
Almost perfectly close.
“Eddie…” you whispered.
He leaned in—
Then stopped.
Right at your lips.
Breath touching breath.
“Tell me to stop,” he whispered, his voice barely there.
You didn’t.
But before either of you could close the distance, a porch light flicked on.
You both jumped.
“My mom,” you said breathlessly. “She’s… uh… probably watching.”
Eddie stepped back, cheeks flushed. “Right. Yeah. Good call. Moms can be… terrifying.”
You laughed, and he stared at you like he wanted to memorize the sound.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” he said again, softer this time.
“Yeah,” you answered. “Tomorrow.”
You went inside.
Closed the door.
Leaned against it.
Heart still racing.
Outside, Eddie lingered on your sidewalk a full minute before finally walking off — grinning to himself like a fool.
