what's the best way to determine your variants? Is there a foolproof method apart from visual typing? and before you ask yes I have hella weak Se
no method is foolproof. fools will always find a way to fuck things up.
if you have shit sensing then this is probably the way with the best outcome ratio:
ask several friends what your blindspot is. (e.g. you might think you have decent sp, but your friends will honestly tell you that nope. unless they are also sp-blind but worse, that’s why you have to ask more than one)
do the “if someone put a gun to my head, what would i prioritize” test
don’t assume that having an instinct means you are skilled in associated tasks. usually your most objectively “healthy” instinct is your second one.
???
if you are an xNxJ just give up completely and accept that your awful self-awareness makes you incapable of typing yourself correctly. if you think you are a certain type, there is like a 95% chance that you are wrong about it.
hey there! for enneagram, ive seen lots of people list 3 numbers/types but idk how that works? is it just ur top 3 results? thank you!
Hello! What you’re describing is called your tritype.
It’s not exactly your top three results. The Enneagram is split into three sets of three called “triads” or “centers.” Here’s a really, really brief overview:
The first is the Heart Center/Triad. It contains numbers 2, 3, and 4. These are the types that are motivated by shame.
The second is the Head Center/Triad. It contains numbers 5, 6, and 7. These are the types that are motivated by fear.
The third is the Gut Center/Triad. It contains numbers 8, 9, and 1. These are the types that are motivated by anger.
Your tritype will have one number from each of these triads. For example, your tritype could be 3-6-9 – that’s one from each.
Everyone feels shame, everyone feels fear, and everyone feels anger. Even if your primary Enneatype is in one triad, you will still sometimes make decisions based on the other two emotions. For this reason, you cannot have a tritype that has more than one from each triad. For example, your tritype could not be 1-2-3, because you would have two types from the Heart Center (2 & 3 – shame) and lack one from the Head Center (thus failing to define how you are affected by fear).
The tritype is organized by the order of influence. A 3-6-9 would not be the same as a 6-9-3. The 3-6-9 is motivated by shame, then fear, then anger, whereas the 6-9-3 is motivated by fear, then anger, then shame. For example, if you were a Type 1, anger would be your primary driving/motivating emotion, but that doesn’t make you immune to fear or shame. This is why your tritype includes an Enneatype from each triad – you’re defining how you respond to and are motivated by each of those three emotions.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
The Typing Aid Chart
I love all the submissions we receive, but sometimes we have to turn down or delete posts with wrong information in them and/or show that the typist doesn’t really understand a function yet. =)
Examples of this can be Ni-dom sections that start off with “So and so is extremely driven and wants power, they are totally focused on their goals.” First, power can be associated with many functions, but why they want it and how they go about it is related to the judging functional axis (TeFi and FeTi); second, any type can have goals, and third, Ni is not a judging function; it’s a perceiving function.
Since functions can be extremely complicated, and hard to remember, I’ve created a print out sheet for when I take notes on a character, both so I can be more specific / concrete in pointing out cognition in the future and to ensure I’m not interpreting the characters’ motives / thought process wrong.
Here’s a PDF for printing.
(I plan to print out one copy and use post it notes; less ink.)
Have an awesome weekend and fun typing!

Hey, is there a type with an Ti Ne Fi Se stack? In that order?
nope, but i would say INTP (Ti Ne Si Fe) is similar.
keep in mind though that the direct order of which functions you use may not guarantee your type. try looking into how functions interact and how they are expressed in each position (dominant, auxiliary, tertiary, inferior)
How can I type without hurting myself more?
* Typing worsens my ulnar nerve trouble.
* I have a proprioceptive impairment, so I can’t type without watching the keyboard , or with two hands, or with several fingers at once. I can’t use the standard ergonomic advice which suggests watching the screen, and using both hands at once, or using chords if you can only use one hand. I currently use a mini keyboard.
* I have a proprioceptive impairment, so I can’t use touch devices or most stylus-based devices.
* I haven’t been able to use speech-to-text software. Enhanced Dictation won’t recognize my words, even with a good external microphone. Dragon for Mac would recognize my words, but would jump about and insert them in the wrong place, or overwrite other work, or delete other work. I have to be able to rephrase things, correct things, check sources, add data, add references, etc. without things going haywire.
* I have hyperacusis and live in a painfully noisy neighborhood, so I need to avoid extra noise.
* I have a severe non-epileptic strobe sensitivity too, so I need to avoid blinking cursors. I currently use a terminal hack and NeoOffice.
