A few days ago I happened upon one of my tumblr posts on instagram. It had been screenshot and put on a meme page. Interestingly, the screenshot had thousands of likes, more likes than notes my original post had on tumblr. BUT only 8 comments. So even though way more eyes saw my post on instagram, there really wasn't much engagement/reaction for the ig page who reposted my meme or me to see as the original creator. Meanwhile, my post on tumblr with less notes has connected me with new blogs, allowed me to see funny tags, and explore new fun blogs.
This tumblr update literally makes reblogs the same as reposting posts (whether to IG or otherwise). Reblogs now remove credits from op and exclude them from the sharing of their own creation. It cuts creators off from their own creations. Not only that but the update encourages the "no engagement, only likes" format of instagram, among other shitty websites.
I don't want my posts to be screenshots. I don't want to come upon them as I surf the web. I don't want thousands of likes but nothing to say.
BTW I'm not angry about the person who reposted it, they gave me credit on ig. But it goes to show that I have no idea if their screenshot helped other people find my blog, and I have no way of connecting with those who saw/liked/etc. on that screenshot.
