Unit 67: 3d animation Evaluation
In this evaluation, I will be talking about where the idea came from, the buildup process and the final thoughts on my 3D animation.
The Idea Generation
In my Proposal, I stated what my idea for the 3d animation will be, instead of the usual simple animations like moving a ball or a cube. My first idea was to have a character moving through a dark hallway and beign stalked by a ghostly entity within the hallways.
My idea originated from a scene from a horror movie called Darkness Falls where the scene takes place inside a darkened hospital. Another inspiration was from the horror game F.E.A.R 2 when the player has to escape an underground medical facility.
The Development
The development of my 3D animation was reasonably quick seeing that only had to model a hospital scenery. I spent a couple of hours working on the scenery props like the first aid kit and the hospital bed. The hospital itself was made with cube meshes and cylinders for the lights.
The Animation
The animation took me around 3 hours to create because of how the animation is. My 3d animation features an animated camera to give the impression it is in a first person perspective. A light source is animated to change the colour of the light from white to black within a frame span of 10 (less than half the speed of a second which for this animation is 25 frames per second). The case lids of the first aid boxes are parented to the boxes at the bottom to give the realism of a box opening.
My first test was to use an actual character I rigged and created but it turned out badly and it did not capture my vision of how I wanted my animation to be.
The Rendering Process
Before I started the rendering process, I had to make sure all the animation is correct, made sure the resolution was good to capture the scenery and to reduce the quality levels to make sure the animation renders fast because of the advanced materials used. I had a total number of 1105 frames (Approx. 44.2 seconds). and the total rendering time took over 2 weeks to complete which was lucky because I started my render the next day after finishing the animation.
My thoughts on my animation
My thoughts on my animation in an honest opinion is I think it is not bad but not good either. I felt my camera motion was unnatural for a person's perspective. The ghostly figure was more like a static object which is not a bad thing as it symbolizes something dead. The light flickering was well done, used a cycle system from the graph editor. The entire animation was developed and animated in Blender 3D.
If I was to grade my own work with my thoughts and views on my own animation, I would say a reasonable Merit.
